Organisation

Galambila Aboriginal Health Service (Galambila) delivers culturally safe holistic primary health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on Gumbaynggirr Country. Established in 1998 Galambila has grown into a large multidisciplinary service supporting the health and wellbeing of the local community. Services include general medical care chronic disease management mental health allied health dental maternal and child health youth health and a range of outreach and community programs. All programs are delivered in a culturally informed welcoming and community-driven way.

Galambilas work is guided by the values of Compassion Respect Empowerment Inclusivity and Accountability. Governance is provided by a community-elected Board with daily operations led by the CEO and leadership team to ensure services reflect community needs and aspirations.

Purpose of Position

The Psychologist (Child Youth & Family) provides culturally safe trauma-informed psychological assessment treatment and therapeutic support to Aboriginal children young people and their families. The role supports early intervention social and emotional wellbeing behavioural development family functioning and mental health outcomes.

The Psychologist works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary Child Youth & Family (CYF) team to deliver integrated strengths-based care that reflects cultural expectations and community priorities.

The Psychologist:

Delivers culturally safe evidence-based psychological assessments and interventions supporting the mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal children young people and families.

Provides early intervention prevention and therapeutic support addressing social emotional developmental and behavioural needs.

Contributes to risk assessment and safety planning escalating concerns and supporting multidisciplinary responses to complex family situations.

Works collaboratively with internal and external partners ensuring coordinated care pathways and culturally respectful engagement.

Maintains high-quality clinical documentation and compliance contributing to reporting evaluation and continuous quality improvement.

Essential

Registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA.

Experience delivering therapeutic intervention to children young people and/or families.

Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice child development and family systems.

Ability to provide culturally safe psychological services to Aboriginal families.

High-level communication engagement and clinical decision-making skills.

Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Current NSW Drivers Licence WWCC and National Criminal History Check.

Desirable

Aboriginality.

Experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.

Training in culturally informed or Indigenous healing-oriented therapeutic models.

Experience with group programs family therapy or community-based psychology.
