Position Overview
KIPP Nashville Public Schools is committed to providing a college-preparatory foundational literacy education to all students and operating in line with the national ONE KIPP strategy to drive foundational literacy achievement. The Director of Foundational Skills and Intervention plays a critical role in realizing this mission by providing schools with high-quality curriculum and assessment materials that are vertically aligned across grade levels and aligned with the national KIPP network best practices ensuring that every KIPP Nashville student is ready to matriculate into rigorous high school foundational literacy courses.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the Director of Foundational Skills and Intervention include but are not limited to:
Vision Setting
Invest leaders teachers students and families in KIPP Nashvilles foundational literacy vision
Set the vision for KIPP Nashvilles K-12 intervention inclusive of universal screening progress monitoring and tiered intervention
In collaboration with regional academic leaders and school-based leaders continually refine KIPP Nashvilles vision for academic excellence
Strategic Planning
Set the intervention strategy for K-12 intervention (Math and English Language Arts)
Build investment from Principals Assistant Principals (APs) and teachers around what excellence looks like in intervention (e.g. scheduling guidelines; data-driven method for group creation; block flow for each tier; progress monitoring cadence and expectations etc.)
Ensure teachers are well-trained and supported in any intervention curriculum
Ensure alignment to the vision and ONE KIPP through fidelity check observations
Curriculum Frameworks
Internalize the foundational literacy curriculum materials and assessments
Create and support the roll-out plan of regional supports for the foundational literacy curriculum
Create and manage the foundational literacy curricula including scope and sequences daily aims and lesson resources
Ensure curriculum alignment to TN state standards
Set the progress monitoring vision for foundational literacy including testing calendar
Collaborate with the Director of K-8 Literacy K-8 Math and Director of Student Support Services to ensure vertical alignment and a cohesive instructional approach
Assessment and Data-Driven Instruction
Organize and execute universal screeners and benchmark testing for DIBELS and iReady ensuring strong completion across the region
Analyze assessment data and use it to drive action with APs through various stakeholder meetings
Prepare data for and participate in regional Academic Progress Monitoring meetings
Support teachers and leaders in analyzing assessment data
Professional Development
Plan and lead summer Professional Development (PD) to launch shared vision and build teacher toolkit
Plan and lead shared PD during the year to support ongoing teacher execution
Set the vision for foundational literacy internalizations including protocols and schedules
Co-observe with APs at least bi-monthly to drive alignment of execution
Observe instructional practices in schools to identify and address curriculum design and professional development gaps
Qualifications :
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelors degree required
Masters degree in education and/or foundational literacy education preferred
Minimum 4 years exemplary foundational literacy teaching experience with strong student achievement results
Minimum 2 years exemplary full-time teacher coaching and adult management experience
Minimum 2 years curriculum development and management
Minimum 2 years managing universal screening and tiers of intervention
Strong collaboration skills and ability to drive a vision across multiple stakeholder groups
Experience planning and leading engaging and effective professional development for adults
Experience in curriculum support such as assessment writing and/or scope and sequence management
Strong project management skills organizational skills and attention to detail
Experience with Reading Mastery (preferred)
Excellent communicator who can work with internal and external stakeholders

Additional Information :
Compensation
Starting Salary is $80-120000 based on experience. Our comprehensive compensation package includes life insurance and long-term disability coverage provided by KIPP Nashville voluntary medical and dental plans in addition to retirement benefits and an annual salary increase. To establish equitable salary practices the compensation package is derived from the regional KIPP Nashville Public Schools pay scale. This position is exempt and will follow a 12-month schedule.
