The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance duties within established procedures in accordance with the policies of the Home County and applicable legislations/regulations. As a valued member of Long Term Care and Seniors Services the Maintenance Worker demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality services in accordance with the organizations mission and vision.
and repair electrical and plumbing equipment.
and assist with H.V.A.C. systems as required.
with regularly scheduled inspections
preventative maintenance as required.
and maintain computerized alarm systems throughout the Home.
maintain and test emergency power generator and lighting equipment.
general building maintenance and repair.
-up take down and store furniture.
seasonal grounds maintenance including grass cutting and gardening in summer and snow removal in winter as assigned.
and dispose of garbage as assigned.
Health Care equipment including lifts.
fire drills and safety inspections and attend safety meetings.
inventory of supplies and storage of materials and complete requisitions as required.
all other maintenance needs are completed and maintenance log books are up-to-date and accurate.
in-service education sessions staff meetings committee meetings workshops etc. as directed by the Supervisor.
in and demonstrates an understanding of resident safety principles and practices into allday to day activities. Follows all safe work practices and procedures and immediately communicates any activity or action which may constitute a risk to resident safety.
as a member of the inter-disciplinary team within the Home.

other duties as assigned including redeployment in emergency situations.

Grade 12 diploma.This job may be considered for educational equivalency in accordance with County Policy.
A general knowledge in building maintenance and construction plumbing and heating electrical painting and small engine/equipment repair. Post-secondary training in a related trade (electrical plumbing carpentry) is an asset.
Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.
As a condition of employment candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing as per Public Health requirements.
A minimum of three (3) years experience in a similar or related position.
Visual and mental effort required when trouble shooting failure of equipment.
Physical effort required when working on equipment working up on a ladder or in confinedspaces.
Constant standing walking during work periods turning stooping bending and lifting.
This position is located in a long term care facility exposure to illnessesand germs are possible on a daily basis.
While performing duties may be exposed to grease oil fumes/odours etc.
Work schedule to be determined; shifts may include days evenings nights and weekends.
