Job Summary

Job Title: Phlebotomy Technician

Location: Soldier Readiness Processing Center (SRP) William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) 18511 Highlander Medics St Fort Bliss TX 79906 and outlying clinics.

Tentative Start Date: 1 April 2026

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 0500-1630 (SRP operational hours). Up to 48 mission-driven overage hours per FTE may be required annually beyond regularly scheduled duty hours as authorized by the Government.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school equivalent and completion of NAACLS or two-part Phlebotomy program; Graduate from an academic course of phlebotomy that includes didactic & hands-on phlebotomy (or required by state law).

  • Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience within the last two (2) years performing phlebotomy or specimen collection in a clinical laboratory hospital or medical treatment facility setting.

  • Experience collecting venous and capillary blood specimens from adult patients using standard phlebotomy techniques.

  • Experience labeling handling and preparing specimens for laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures.

  • License / Certification:

    • State-required phlebotomy certification/registration or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP or AMT.

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or Red Cross) required.

  • Other Requirements: U.S. Citizenship required.

Responsibilities:

  • Support Soldier Readiness Processing (SRP) laboratory operations by performing blood draws and specimen collection for service members undergoing mobilization demobilization redeployment and separation.

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection using approved techniques to obtain specimens required for readiness and clinical evaluations.

  • Properly label process and prepare specimens for transport to the laboratory in accordance with established protocols.

  • Verify patient identification and ensure specimens are accurately matched to laboratory orders.

  • Maintain phlebotomy supplies collection equipment and work areas to support continuous SRP operations.

  • Monitor service members during and after blood draws and report adverse reactions or complications to clinical staff.

  • Coordinate specimen flow to support required SRP processing timelines and patient throughput.

  • Document specimen collection activities and assigned tasks in MHS GENESIS or other Government-designated systems as directed.

  • Support surge laboratory operations during peak MOB/DEMOB cycles including extended duty hours when mission required.
