Job Summary

We are hiring a Research Associate 2 to lead the execution of corn and soybean nursery seed production strictly follow HSE and Stewardship practices provide quality seed meeting quantity and timeline targets to assist scientists in delivering project goals as well as to support site management with the functional activities of a research station.

Accountabilities: 

  • Functioning as an integral member of a team leading aspects of packaging planting cultivating note taking processing and harvesting in seed production nurseries.
  • Responsible for efforts to maintain integrity of seed inventory packaging field layout pollinating seed processing and data collection.
  • Performing all tasks and behaving in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety and stewardship related company policies and practices including completing all required company training courses.
  • Assist in the automatic seed packaging facility in Nevada Iowa during peak seasons.
  • Operate and troubleshoot specialized seed research equipment including harvesters seed processing and packaging equipment.
  • Provide daily direction to contract staff and task specific training to FTEs and contract staff.
  • Leading complex projects and deliver on key target including understanding and operating within given budget.

Qualifications :

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without requiring current or future sponsorship (which also includes OPT/CPT and H-1B visas).

  • Associates degree in Agriculture Operations Management or related field; or 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with precision agriculture equipment and software systems.
  • A basic understanding of plant genetics and breeding is desirable.
  • Clear understanding of the practices and procedures that affect nursery seed production quality quantity and timelines.
  • Demonstrated outstanding communication skills and experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
  • A valid drivers license with an acceptable drivers history.
  • Ability to obtain a chemical applicators license within 3-6 months of hire date is strongly recommended.
  • Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in field. 
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. 
  • Capable of working long hours during time-critical periods of the growing season.
