Position Overview
The Data Center Substation Construction Manager plays a critical role in the successful delivery of Fleets large-scale mission-critical power infrastructure. Reporting to the Sr. Construction Manager this role is responsible for managing the construction and delivery of on-site and campus substations ensuring projects are executed safely on schedule within budget and in compliance with technical regulatory and quality standards.
This role collaborates closely with internal power engineering design commissioning and operations teams as well as utilities EPC partners and specialty contractors to deliver reliable electrical infrastructure that supports hyperscale data center operations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Manage all phases of substation construction including site preparation foundations equipment installation testing and turnover.
- Support preconstruction activities such as constructability reviews sequencing and site logistics planning.
- Track and manage schedules budgets and quality objectives for substation scope.
- Coordinate activities of EPCs electrical contractors civil contractors and equipment vendors.
- Monitor construction progress and proactively identify and resolve schedule scope or technical risks.
- Lead or participate in site-based coordination meetings inspections energization planning and turnover activities.
Technical & Quality Oversight
- Oversee installation of substation equipment including transformers switchgear breakers buswork grounding systems and protection & control systems.
- Ensure compliance with approved design documents utility requirements NEC/NESC standards and applicable codes.
- Review substation-related submittals RFIs method statements and field changes.
- Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) site acceptance testing (SAT) and commissioning activities.
- Drive quality control and documentation standards using Procore or equivalent project management systems.
Budgeting & Contracts
- Assist in managing substation construction budgets cost tracking and forecasting.
- Support RFP processes bid evaluations and contractor selection for substation-related scopes.
- Review change orders and scope clarifications related to electrical and utility infrastructure.
- Identify cost schedule and risk mitigation opportunities throughout execution.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Serve as a primary point of contact for substation construction coordination across internal teams utilities EPC partners and contractors.
- Provide regular progress updates risk assessments and milestone reporting to project leadership.
- Support alignment between construction commissioning and operations teams to ensure successful energization and turnover.
- Foster a culture of safety accountability and collaboration on site.
Risk Safety and Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to all environmental health and safety requirements particularly high-voltage safety standards.
- Support risk mitigation planning related to utility interfaces long-lead equipment energization sequencing and commissioning readiness.
- Assist with regulatory permitting and utility coordination requirements as needed.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management Electrical Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience
- 3 years of experience managing electrical infrastructure or substation construction projects.
- 3 years of experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings specifications and contracts.
- 3 years of experience supporting medium-to-high-voltage substation construction and utility coordination.
- 3 years working knowledge of substation equipment protection and control systems grounding and testing procedures.
- 3 years of experience with Procore and Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting data centers or other mission-critical facilities.
- Familiarity with utility interconnection processes and energization planning.
- Strong organizational communication and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented self-starter comfortable working in a fast-paced on-site construction environment.
Expected Salary Range: $100000 $150000 base an annual bonus
