A Crime Scene Analyst II is an essential member of our team and we invite you to apply and help contribute to CNLVS growing success!

This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill 1 vacancy for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Police department. The eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one hundred eighty(180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the eligibility list.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

  • Pay Considerations The starting hourly pay for this position is $35.86. Starting salary is dependent on education qualifications and experience. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
  • Shift work required This position supports an operation that is open 24 hours a day 365 days a year. You must be able to work any shift (days swings or graveyard) and any day of the week to include weekends and holidays.

THE ROLE

Responds to crime scenes and performs a variety of investigative tasks to document the crime including taking photographs recovering evidence and processing latent patent and visible fingerprints; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university with the major course work in criminal justice police science forensic science or a closely related field; AND
  • Three years of paid full time progressively responsible continuous uninterrupted experience conducting crime scene investigations and performing field crime scene processing/analysis of evidence for an investigative municipal police agency county sheriffs office or governmental agency but not limited to a county coroners office or medical examiners office within the last 4 years.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must be a US citizen and a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state drivers license within required time frame.
  • Must complete and maintain certification as Crime Scene Investigator (Level I) from the International Association for Identification (IAI) within one year of the appointment to Crime Scene Analyst II.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and psychological exam.
  • Must satisfactorily complete the North Las Vegas Police Department Crime Scene Investigators Field Training Program within the allotted time frame for the program.

SELECTION PROCESS

1.Complete online application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the Citys application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.

2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume: The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).

3. Oral Board Interview (Passing Score 70% Weight 100%)

4. Pre-Employment Screening ** IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 3 to 4 months to complete. Background Screening/Investigation Includes an extensive background check polygraph/CVSA examination medical/drug screen exam. All top scoring candidates must pass the Background Investigation in order to move forward in the process. Applicants who proceed in the selection process will be required to complete an extensive police background. Among other items the following are disqualifying behaviors:

Any felony conviction.

Any domestic violence conviction.

Gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Although there have been recent changes to laws regarding the legal possession and consumption of marijuana the City of North Las Vegas will continue to adhere to its professional standards and guidelines as it relates to recent and continuous use of the drug.

5. Selection/Offers

Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100% requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.

The selection process may include any combination of written performance and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education experience knowledge skills and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal ethical and professional standards.
