Job Summary
Salary/Position Classification
- $18.00 hourly Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
- 10 hours per week
- 100% Remote Work Availability: No
- Hybrid Work Availability (requires some time on campus): No
Purpose of Position
This is a part-time non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.
Duties & Responsibilities
- The student will support mentor-led research projects and assist with preliminary work related to ongoing and upcoming research efforts. The students work may include the following tasks:
- Gather and organize data from approved sources (public datasets sensors instruments and/or model outputs).
- Pair or align datasets in time and space when needed (e.g. observations with related contextual data).
- Process and analyze datasets by computing summary statistics creating basic plots and running quality-control checks.
- Support feature extraction or structured dataset creation (as appropriate to the project).
- Document the dataset and workflow clearly so it can be reused by the research team.
Minimum Requirements
- Undergraduate student (Freshman/Junior/Senior) in good academic standing (open to multiple majors).
- Completed the Data Skills Pathway (or near completion with mentor approval).
- Basic data-tool skills (e.g. spreadsheets and/or introductory Python).
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a Linux environment or using command line tools.
- Familiarity with Python for basic data processing and plotting.
- Experience creating basic figures (time series scatter plots histograms) and writing short summaries of results.
