Position Overview:
The Research Technician supports the R&D team by executing laboratory experiments preparing materials and assisting with product and process development. This role involves hands-on laboratory work including mixing molding testing and documenting experimental results.
The ideal candidate will have strong laboratory fundamentals experience operating lab equipment and the ability to carefully follow detailed procedures while accurately documenting results. This position works closely with engineers and scientists and plays an important role in supporting ongoing research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Laboratory & Experiment Execution:
Execute laboratory experiments and research assignments related to materials processes and product development.
Prepare and process material samples including mixing molding and test preparation.
Assist engineers and scientists in performing experimental work and gathering test data.
Participate in discussions around experiments and results when appropriate.
Materials Processing & Equipment Operation:
Operate laboratory and pilot-scale equipment including mixers and presses.
Prepare samples and assist with materials processing experiments.
Use simple jigs and fixtures to support experimental setups.
Troubleshoot basic equipment or process issues when needed.
Testing & Data Collection:
Perform testing and data collection related to product performance.
Assist with hardness and mechanical testing (e.g. Rockwell hardness or Instron testing when applicable).
Use thermocouples and other instruments for experimental data collection.
Enter and analyze data using Excel and other documentation systems.
Documentation & Reporting:
Accurately document experimental procedures and results using:
Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN)
Laboratory notebooks
SharePoint or shared data systems
Maintain detailed records to support reproducibility and research integrity.
Manage and document assigned projects and tasks under supervision.
Required Qualifications:
1 5 years of laboratory industrial or R&D experience
Hands-on experience with laboratory or pilot-scale mixing and molding
Strong ability to follow detailed procedures and document work accurately
Experience operating laboratory equipment and troubleshooting basic issues
Basic data processing and analysis skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with abrasive mixing or molding
Experience with ceramic mixing or molding
Familiarity with:
Rockwell hardness testing
Instron mechanical testing equipment
Materials processing in an R&D environment
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift to 50 pounds occasionally
Ability to work in both laboratory and industrial environments
Work Environment:
This role operates in both R&D laboratory and light industrial environments. Candidates must be comfortable working around laboratory equipment materials processing systems and testing instruments
