Wayman Education is seeking an ambitious and academically rigorous 2iC of English for a high-performing secondary school in Hammersmith. This is a critical middle-leadership role designed for an exceptional practitioner who is ready to help lead a flagship department and drive standards across Key Stages 3 4 and 5.
Working closely with the Head of English you will play a key role in shaping a curriculum that balances the beauty of English Literature with the functional excellence of English Language. This role carries a 5000 TLR (Teaching and Learning Responsibility) and offers a clear pathway for those aspiring to Head of Department roles in the near future.
Key Leadership Responsibilities:
Curriculum Innovation: Take the lead on specific Key Stages (likely KS3 or KS4) to develop diverse challenging and engaging schemes of work.
Pedagogical Leadership: Model Outstanding classroom practice and lead departmental CPD sessions to share best practices in literacy and analytical writing.
Data & Intervention: Lead on the tracking of student progress across your assigned Key Stage implementing high-impact interventions to ensure no student is left behind.
Staff Mentoring: Support and coach ECTs and established teachers within the department to foster a culture of continuous professional improvement.

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in English or a related field.
A proven track record of delivering excellent results at GCSE and A-Level.
Experience in a position of responsibility (e.g. Lead Teacher Key Stage Coordinator) is highly desirable.
A deep passion for English Literature and a commitment to raising literacy standards across the school.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate a diverse team of educators.
