Description
This position is responsible for assisting the head coach with planning and organizing all phases of the womens soccer program. Responsibilities include coaching and administrative duties as directed by the head coach but are not limited to; assisting in practice planning and field coaching (running drills) position-specific player development and skills training recruiting game preparation scouting and community involvement. Additionally this position provides leadership and support for the vision and strategies of the head coach. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Essential Job Duties
Teaching/Coaching (51%)
- Assist the head coach with coaching the team;
- Instruct teach and coach student-athletes during practice and competitions
- Assess performance and provide practical instructions to student-athletes
- Conduct video analysis and instruction as a teaching and preparation tool for games and competitions
- Assist with coaching in practices and/or competition strategy
- Responsible for game preparation and strategy;
Recruiting (25%)
- Recruit quality academically- and athletically-qualified student-athletes;
- Ensure academic success of student-athletes;
- Retain current student-athletes as team members;
- Monitor academic performance and counsel student-athletes relative to academic success progress and eligibility in cooperation with other divisional compliance staff;
Administration (24%)
- Schedule games practices team meetings etc.;
- Attend meetings with alumni and enhance public relations as needed;
- Maintain oversight of program budget(s);
- Maintain adherence to NCAA Atlantic Sun and university rules regulations policies procedures and processes;
- Support the philosophy goals and mission of both the University and its intercollegiate athletics programs;
- Assist with cultivating and soliciting donors as needed;
- Maintain a high graduation rate and APR to NCAA regulations;
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Other responsibilities will be assigned in an administrative capacity these may include a community outreach program for student-athletes and organizing a program that encourages former athletic alumni to support the department.Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree is required;
- Experience recruiting student-athletes is preferred and preference will be given to candidates that can demonstrate a proven ability to recruit quality student-athletes;
- Playing/Coaching experience at the intercollegiate level in soccer is preferred;
- Collegiate club or professional recruiting/coaching experience is preferred with preference given to candidates with three to five years of successful collegiate/club/professional recruiting and/or coaching experience;
- Knowledge of and experience with NCAA compliance is preferred;
- Knowledge of Division I soccer and NCAA rules preferred;
- Goalkeeper coaching and playing experience is preferred.
LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
- USSF D License is preferred;
- United Soccer Coaches National Diploma is preferred;
- CPR certification renewed annually is required.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to effectively recruit and coach student-athletes while maintaining concern for health and welfare physical and psychological preparation;
- Ability to foster and maintain positive effective relationships with student-athletes coaching staff administrators faculty staff parents and the general public;
- Organizational skills;
- Ability to interact effectively both verbally and in written format with a varied group of student-athletes staff faculty administrators parents and the general public;
- Ability to demonstrate respect for and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds;
- Knowledge of and the ability to maintain compliance with NCAA ASUN and university rules regulations policies procedures and processes;
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment eligibility and related functions;
- Ability to operate a PC and standard software programs related to employment and position-specific activities;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other divisional staff coaches and administrators.
ATHLETICS ADDENDUM:
As an Assistant Soccer Coach for the University of North Alabama you will be expected to comply with all NCAA and Conference rules and regulations and with the provisions of gender equity as specified by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. You are required to participate in an annual review of relevant Conference and NCAA rules and regulations governing your position responsibilities. You are expected to advise the Athletics Director if you are aware of any violation of NCAA/conference rules or regulations in the Universitys athletics program. Violation of NCAA/Conference rules or regulations shall subject you to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures and as required by Section 11.2 of the NCAA Manual. Further you may be terminated or disciplined for any act or omission that may give rise to a finding that the institution has violated an NCAA rule or regulation. You shall also be subject to disciplinary action for violation of any University rules policies regulations or the provisions of Title IX pursuant to the policies and procedures governing University staff employees.
