Were looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant Regulatory to join our team. If you have expertise in investigations financial analysis accounting standards and regulatory compliance you can make a significant contribution to ensuring charities meet their financial and legal obligations.

About the role

As our Senior Accountant Regulatory you will provide specialist financial and accounting advice to support regulatory decisions and processes. You will review and assess financial information submitted by charities and assist our investigations team by providing high quality reports and recommendations that will support and direct investigative and regulatory outcomes.

As an experienced Accountant you will be comfortable working within relevant regulatory frameworks in particular in relation to charities. You will also have the ability to work with multiple complex ideas in parallel while being able to integrate multiple concepts and deal with ambiguity to make regulatory decisions that are often legally complex and/or high profile and come with an additional risk to the Department.

You will thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly and know how to stay calm and focused under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and interpret financial statements and disclosures from charitable entities to ensure compliance with legislative and accounting requirements.
  • Provide expert financial advice to support registration decisions and regulatory actions.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality decision papers and recommendations for the Charities Registration Board.
  • Prepare reports and briefings for senior management and Ministers on financial and compliance matters.
  • Contribute to projects that improve financial compliance processes and sector capability.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including charities auditors and government agencies.

What Were Looking For:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) qualified.
  • 3 years accounting experience.
  • Experience in investigations or regulatory fields.
  • Highly effective communicator with the ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Proven experience in accounting auditing or financial compliance ideally in a regulatory or public sector environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
  • Experience engaging with IRD and other financial agencies (preferred but not essential).
