Job Duties

The role manages the surveillance and operations programs in the field office to ensure that public drinking water follows the federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and the Waterworks Regulations. This may include supervision of field office surveillance staff including Environmental Specialist Seniors Public Water Supply and Environmental Health Technical Specialists. This is accomplished through surveillance site visits and sanitary surveys issuance and review of waterworks operation permit reviewing data and operating reports investigating consumer complaints managing databases reviewing chemical analysis and providing technical assistance and training to waterworks operators. Serves as the groundwater and consecutive waterworks operations program manager and subject matter expert for the entire field office by providing technical and procedural guidance training and quality assurance reviews. As the Surveillance and Operations Manager interprets and applies public health laws regulations policies and procedures concerning public drinking water to determine compliance and reduce risks to the publics health. Support the Field Director in the overall administration and management of the field office.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of technical and operational aspects of environmental health programs.
Experience providing effective supervision and leadership of professional and technical staff.
Experience evaluating programmatic needs assessments meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of service delivery.
Experience identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Strong communication skills including communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience and conveying verbal information clearly.

Additional Considerations

Experience in the administration of public environmental health programs
Environmental Health Specialist Senior certifications are preferred
Environmental Health Technical Specialist certifications are preferred
