Nature of Work

The fundamental reason thisclassification exists is to manage Zoo retail operations including the giftshop and admissions programs. The work responsibilities of this position mayinclude: supervising two or morefull-time employees processing employee concerns and problems assigning workand counseling/recommending disciplinary and other personnel actions; managingthe operation of the gift shop and Mann Museum; overseeing the daily admissions to the Montgomery Zoo; providingcustomer service and promoting the sale of tickets for animal encounters ridesand additional offerings; preparing the yearly operating budget for Zoo retailoperations; and developing professional relationships with outside vendors inorder to obtain merchandise. The ZooRetail Manager reports directly to the Deputy Zoo Director.

Minimum Qualifications

BachelorsDegree with a major in Business Marketing Management Public Relations Tourism or a related fieldand one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in retail salesmanagement. Experience must include supervisory experience.

NOTE:Qualifying education training and experience that provide the requisiteknowledge skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must be ableto work on weekends holidays and special events.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:Mustbe able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted as needed to receive inspect andstore merchandise.

Kind of Examination
