Job Duties
Must have demonstrated ability to:
1. Create a vision and engage employees in goal achievement
2. Coordinate the delivery of nursing services on all shifts in multiple program areas
including overseeing nursing role in emergencies
3. Make difficult decisions with authority and ownership and through appropriate
consultation
4. Supervise and schedule RNs LPNs CNAs PCTs and clerical staff with effectiveness and efficiency according to standards
5. Resolve complex problems using data obtaining input from others and evaluating
results
6. Effectively use interpersonal skills to communicate listen resolve conflict and
motivate
7. Assertively contribute to discussions with various perspectives held by professionals
administrators and regulatory personnel and achieve consensus to move forward
8. Build constructive working relationships and customer relations between disciplines
departments and the public
9. Achieve successful resolution of complaints from patients families visitors as well as
other employees
10. Use computer technology to effectively communicate develop professional reports
and maintain records; and demonstrate excellent writing skills to create professional
letters forms documents and presentations
11. Establish a quality improvement plan based on standards established by The Joint
Commission CMS Board of Nursing Department of Behavioral Health and
Developmental Services and other agencies/organizations
12. Demonstrate experience successfully managing a budget
13. Develop and implement a fiscally sound staffing plan utilizing an automated
scheduling and timekeeping system
14. Creatively develop a successful nursing recruitment and retention plan
15. The following physical requirements are necessary: repetitious walking and/or
standing; bending lifting and reaching overhead to position restrain transfer
transport and/or escort patients and to perform or assist them in activities of daily
living. Must be flexible with schedule and assignments and work overtime if needed.
Must successfully complete TO (Therapeutic Options) Training Defuse Training and
CPR.
16. Ensure Virginia Human Rights Regulations and Mental Health Laws are upheld which
govern treatment for people with mental illness
Minimum Qualifications
Require License or eligibility to practice as Registered Nurse by the
Virginia State Board of Nursing
Require graduation from an accredited school of registered nursing
Considerable experience working in a inpatient setting for mental health recovery
required
Additional Considerations
Strongly prefer extensive experience in upper-level management and supervision of
RN supervisors and managers
Strongly desire a minimum degree of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Demonstrated ability to develop new programs establish quality improvement
indicators which achieve TJC/CMS standards initiate new policies and practices
