Job Summary

Job Summary

The Finance Controller is responsible for end-to-end financial management reporting control and compliance for commodity trading and farm operations. The role oversees trading P&L inventory and valuation farm costing working capital and risk controls while providing financial insights to support trading decisions agricultural operations and strategic growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Control & Reporting

Oversee accounting financial reporting and month-end/quarter-end close for trading and farm entities
Prepare and review management accounts statutory financial statements and consolidated reports
Ensure compliance with IFRS / local GAAP company policies and accounting standards
Maintain balance sheet integrity including inventory biological assets receivables and payables

Commodity Procurement Finance

Monitor daily trading P&L mark-to-market valuations and price exposure
Report on the Contracts positions Prepayments and overdue advances
Close monitoring of the cycle time for the advance to GRN process and reporting any deviations

Farm & Agricultural Operations Finance

Manage farm costing including inputs (seeds fertilizers chemicals) labor irrigation and overheads
Oversee accounting and valuation of biological assets and agricultural produce
Analyze yields cost per hectare and productivity metrics
Support budgeting and forecasting for planting harvesting and seasonal activities

Budgeting Forecasting & Performance Management

Lead annual budgets and rolling forecasts for trading and farm operations
Track actuals vs budget and provide variance analysis with actionable insights
Develop KPIs and dashboards for trading performance farm productivity and profitability

Working Capital Treasury & Cash Flow

Monitor inventory levels contract positions and receivables/payables
Support cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning

Risk Management & Controls

Implement and monitor internal controls for trading inventory and farm operations
Ensure compliance with risk limits approval matrices and delegation of authority
Coordinate internal and external audits

Taxation & Compliance

Ensure compliance with direct and indirect tax regulations
Support transfer pricing customs and export/import compliance (if applicable)
Liaise with tax advisors auditors and regulatory authorities

Systems & Process Improvement

Ensure effective use of ERP
Standardize finance processes
Drive automation and reporting enhancements

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

Lead and develop finance teams across trading and farm locations
Act as finance business partner to trading procurement and farm management teams
Communicate financial insights to senior management and external stakeholders

Key Skills & Competencies

Strong expertise in commodity trading finance and agricultural operations
Solid understanding of inventory valuation MTM and hedging
Excellent analytical risk management and decision-support skills
Strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration abilities
Advanced Excel and financial systems proficiency

Requirements

Bachelors degree in finance Accounting Economics or related field
Professional qualifications (ICAN or ACCA) preferred
8-12 years of experience in Agriculture commodity companies or related finance roles
Experience in Agriculture commodity companies or plantation will be preferred
