We are looking for an individual who has experience working in medical services is self-disciplined self-motivated and capable of working within the team and independently. Individual must demonstrate patience and compassion in working with Juneaus most vulnerable populations. The individual who fills this role must be able to set schedule for daily activities while simultaneously coordinating appointments and referrals for clients.


Capital City Fire Rescues Mobile Integrated Healthcare team is a dynamic and growing program aimed at tackling our evolving community health challenges. WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position is part time and may work 10-hour shifts from 8:00 AM 6:00 PM 20 to 40 hours per week depending on staffing needs. Most shifts worked will be weekday shifts with occasional weekend shifts required as necessary to ensure adequate coverage. Office is located at the Auke Bay Fire Station at 11900 Glacier Highway.

Typical Responsibilities

Under general direction of the CARES Program Manager. This position will work to enhance community health by providing alternatives to emergency services for persons with non-emergent needs in order to decompress the ambulance and hospital services. Those in this position will be provided with the opportunity and training to achieve their EMT I certification if they are not already certified.


On a daily basis the Community Health Specialist provides medical care in the scope of their certification including assessing patients delivering basic life support and transporting individuals to and from medical addition to medical responsibilities the specialist supports patients and families in managing chronic physical and behavioral health conditions by assisting with medication administration offering health education and helping them navigate access to services such as housing food assistance and non-emergent medical care through established referral systems. The role also includes operating emergency vehicles maintaining detailed documentation and participating in regular training to stay current with medical standards and protocols.


This position also works in conjunction with Bartlett Regional Hospital clinicians and the Juneau Police Department to form a Mobile Crisis Team responding to dispatched calls. The Community Health Specialist works with the clinician to assess and manage medical needs on scene provide de-escalation and support in high stress situations coordinate transport to appropriate facilities when necessary and document calls accurately.


This position will work very closely with the CARES Community Health Paramedic positions assisting the Community Health Paramedic on complex calls and working independently on less complex calls.

Minimum Qualifications

Community Health Specialist In Training (Range 724) $25.38 - $28.43 per hour - (DOQ)

Education:

High School graduation or a valid GED certificate.

Experience:

One (1) year of experience working in a human services behavioral health or related field.

Substitution:

College level course work in human services psychology social work or a closely related field may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equals 1 month of experience).

Other:
Not less than 18 years of age at time of appointment.
A valid Drivers License at time of appointment and for continued employment.


Advancement to Community Health EMT
Note:As a condition of employment employees must advance from the Emergency Trauma Technician level to the Community Health EMT level once they obtain the required certifications meet performance standards and meet minimum qualifications of the higher level.

Certification(s):

Valid Emergency Trauma Technician Certification within (3) months of appointment and for continued employment.

Certification as a State of Alaska Emergency Medical Technician I or higher within one (1) year of appointment and for continued employment.

Training for medical certifications will be provided by the department.



Community Health Specialist I (EMT) (Range 726) $28.19 - $31.58 per hour - (DOQ)

Education:

High School graduation or a valid GED certificate.

Experience:

Eighteen (18) months of experience in a human services behavioral health or related field.

Substitution:

College level course work in human services psychology social work or a closely related field may substitute or the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equals 1 month of experience).

Other:
Not less than 18 years of age at time of appointment.
A valid Drivers Licenseat time of appointment and for continued employment.

Certification(s):

Certification by the State of Alaska as an Emergency Medical Technician I at time of appointment and for continued employment.
