SUMMARYJob Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Interprets data trendscomprehendswritten technical procedures and manuals.
Performs a variety of duties (construction maintenance and repair) requiring knowledge of wastewater systems.This includes:
Perform routine maintenance on equipment as needed.
Assistsin troubleshooting and repair processes to the collections systems.
Performs utility locators and uses pipe locators leaklocatorsand sonde equipment. Locates underground water sewer and storm sewer lines for the Utilities Department private utilities contractors and property owners. Uses equipment tolocateutility lines and main breaks including metal detector pipeline locator pipe and cable locator leak correlator GPS equipment and measuring devices.
Required to perform after hours standby duty on a rotating basis and respond to Public Works emergencies as necessary including snow and ice control shifts.
Responds to questions from the public about collections system/distribution system operations and maintenanceactivitiesas necessary.Ability toassistin effectively communicating and understanding cause and work towards resolution of the commercial or residential service complaints.
Maintains a working knowledge with the OSHA Regulations and associated safety procedures andremainsalert to conditions hazards and events occurring at the jobsite.Alwaysutilizesthe best industry safety practices.
Required to cross-train in other divisions and disciplines as directed by supervisor.
Maintainsaccuraterecords of work performed and materials and equipment used and enters spatial and work order data into asset management software.
Performs related duties as required by management to meet the needs of the city.
Knows andcomplies withall city and department policies and city values;participatesin professional trainings and development; and adheres to attendance and workplace attire policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Wastewater Collection Operator I
Ability to clearly describe program goals andobjectives. Able to assess a situation and adjust their style to meet the needs of the specific situation or audience.

Valid Drivers License and ability tomaintainan acceptable motor vehicle record.

Wastewater Collection Operator II

Ability todemonstrateexperience with various utilities maintenance equipment including locator sewer jet hydro-excavatorsvactorstyle trucks
Ability toparticipatein rotational standby respond to afterhours calls andparticipatein Snow Operations

Ability to suggest process improvements to crews withinacquiredknowledge base.
Wastewater Collection Operator III

Ability to lead an afterhours emergency response team.
Ability todemonstratetechnical training on CCTV Equipment.
Ability todemonstratetrainingon BMP installation and maintenance.
Wastewater Collection Operator IV
In addition to the Wastewater Collection Operator IIIminimum qualifications:
Ability to read blueprints and other construction drawings.
Knowledge of City Design and Construction Standards.

Six (6) months experience in utilities operations and maintenance or construction (wastewater collections).
Commercial Drivers License ClassAor new hires have ability to obtainwithinnine(9)months.
State of Colorado Class I Wastewater System OperatorCertificationor ability to obtain within 9 months of hire
Backhoe and loaderCertificationunder the Equipment Operators Certification and Training Programornew hires have ability to obtainwithin one(1)year.
Wastewater CollectionOperator II
High School Diploma or GED; or equivalent of two (2) years experience may substitute for the education requirement only.
Two(2)yearsofexperience in utilities maintenance or construction (water and/or wastewater).

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
PhysicalandMental Effort:Ability to work in and around moving traffic and equipment; in areas of limited access; and confined spaces requiring standing walking bending and kneeling. Requires upper body strength to lift and carry equipment and supplies as needed.
Work Environment:Works year-round in an outdoor environment and at times in adverse weather conditions such as rain wind heat cold and snow. Works in an industrial setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.
