About the opportunity

In close collaboration with the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) this position will focus on evaluating sea-level rise risks for Australia and Pacific Island nations using Antarctic Ice Sheet projections derived from the FranceAustraliaFinland collaborative Elmer/Ice model of Antarctica under future climate scenarios. The successful candidate will play a key role in producing high-impact scientific publications advancing understanding of Antarctic contributions to regional and global sea level risks tailored to Australia and the Pacific Islands.

What youll do:

  • Evaluate sea level risks using projections of Antarctic Ice Sheet change under IPCC future climate scenarios.
  • Produce a framework for sea level fingerprinting.
  • Lead policy-relevant report writing.
  • Undertake and publish high-quality research of national and international standing.
  • Contribute to the successful supervision of research higher degree students.

What were looking for:

  • A PhD in glaciology oceanography geophysics computational modelling climate science or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience with numerical modelling of complex physical systems preferably in sea level glaciology iceocean or climate modelling.
  • Strong computational skills including programming in languages such as Python MATLAB or Fortran and experience with high-performance computing environments.
  • A track record of peer-reviewed publications and ability to communicate research findings to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multi-institutional and international research projects.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $155885 comprising base salary within the range of $114766 to $133235 plus 17% superannuation.
