This role is expected to be performed from EDCs headquarters in Ottawa. However applicants who are able to work from the companys downtown Toronto or downtown Montreal hubs will also be considered.

Job and Team Overview
EDC is seeking an investment professional to join our Investments Team. We are an evergreen investment group with over $4 billion in committed and invested capital that invests independently or in partnership with other investors under commercial terms conditions and return expectations. We invest both directly into Canadian companies on a minority basis and also through commitments to Canadian and International private equity funds. We are long-term investors that leverage EDCs multi-product capabilities networks and knowledge for the benefit of Canadian companies and their international growth aspirations.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 to 7 years of dedicated experience in private equity investing with a focus on fund investing and co-investments - and accordingly will have hands-on experience in transaction execution and portfolio management with a solid knowledge of the asset class its participants and practices.
What you will be doing:
Originates and/or Triages Potential Fund Commitments and Co-Investments- Assesses fit with EDC investment criteria formulates investment thesis and structure
Conducts Due Diligence- Leads and/or works with a transaction team to conduct full business analysis and diligence for private equity fund transactions and/or co-investments.
Presents to Investment Committee- Prepares investment memorandums and related materials and presents investment recommendations.
Negotiates Legal Documentation- Working with internal and/or external counsel reviews assesses negotiates and finalizes transaction documentation.
Manages a Portfolio- Manages a diverse investment portfolio of both fund and direct investments. Performs ongoing assessment valuation and management of investments. Works comfortably to build and maintain institutional relationships with private equity General Partners and senior management of direct portfolio investments
Leads Special Projects - As determined by the Managing Partner Private Equity Investments.
Demonstrates Teamwork- Works collaboratively and effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
Provides Coaching- Leverages experience to provide learning development and mentorship to junior colleagues.
What we are looking for:
Additional relevant professional experience which could include investment banking M&A consulting or operations.
Referenceable deal sheet or listing of relevant private equity transactions that the candidate had direct (individual or shared) involvement in.
Skills & Knowledge:
Strong business acumen and intellectual curiosity.
Excellent communication collaboration and teamwork skills.
Ability to understand complex transaction structures and negotiate legal contracts.
Solid organizational skills to effectively manage transaction and internal processes.
Solid understanding of finance and accounting enabling effective financial analysis.
Ability to operate independently and represent EDC with company founders senior executives general partners and other investors in the Canadian private equity ecosystem.
What will make you stand out:
Direct investing experience and/or experience with private company boards and governance.
Operational experience in a private equity or venture backed company.
Bilingualism in both official languages (English and French).
