Elections BC (EBC) is looking for local leaders to serve asDistrict Electoral Officers (DEOs)andDeputy District Electoral Officers (DDEOs)throughout the province.
DEOs and DDEOs plan for manage and administer provincial general elections by-elections and other events. As a local representative of the Chief Electoral Officer in their assigned electoral district DEOs and DDEOs ensure there is an impartial and fair election that is accessible and inclusive for voters and other delivering EBCs mandate they are role models of EBCs values ethics and behaviours and must always represent EBC positively. They must establish and maintain decorum and a positive responsive transparent and accountable culture.
The most recent provincial general election in B.C. took place in October 2024. While general elections are scheduled every four years they can occur before a scheduled date. By-elections and other on-demand electoral events may also be held at any time. DEOs and DDEOs ensure that EBC is continually ready to deliver any electoral event in their electoral district when required.
The work of a DEO or DDEO requires broad management experience; strong planning and organizing skills; comfort with computer technology and office automation; expertise in material human and financial resources management; and experience leading a diverse workforce. DEOs and DDEOs must have solid project management skills excellent judgment and stamina to complete all the tasks of an election within a very short and legislated return the work is varied challenging and highly rewarding.
