Title:Health Services Team Leader
Reports to:Administrators
Supervises:RNs LPNs & Health Technicians
Schedule: 7.5 hours per day / 190 days per year
Purpose and Objectives of the Health Services Team Leader:
- Provide leadership to the districts health team.
- Serve as liaison between health team administration and local and state health agencies.
- Coordinate district-wide health related activities.
- Strengthen the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of students by the prevention of illness and disability with early detection and appropriate community referrals.
- Serve as health advocate for all students.
- Identify and assist in the removal of heath related barriers to the learning process.
Develop and Implement Health Plans:
- Interpret the health status of students to school personnel.
- Initiate referrals to parents and community agencies.
- Provide on-going health counseling.
Provide Health Assessments:
- Obtain a health history.
- Screen for vision and hearing as required by the State.
- Observe student for development and health patterns in making nursing assessment and diagnosis.
Participate as the Health Team Specialist on the Education Team:
- Liaison for parents and physician.
- Develop protocols for student with special health needs.
Promote and Assist in Control of Communicable Diseases:
- Review student health records.
- Early detection.
- Report contagious disease to appropriate health agency.
Develop Procedures for Crisis Intervention for Acute Illness Injury and Emotional Disturbances:
- Member of individual school crisis team.
- Member of Safety Committee.
- Recommend policies and procedures that promote a healthy & supportive school environment.
Provide Health Education:
- Serve as a resource person for the classroom teacher with health related topics.
- Counsel students concerning health issues.
Provide Supervision and Training for the Health Team Staff:
- Provide CPR/First Aid Training.
- Develop written protocols to handle specific student health issues.
- Monitor and arrange for school health room coverage in cases of staff emergencies and /or absenteeism.
- Identify nursing staff in-service needs and plan or delegate responsibility for structuring the programs to meet staff needs.
- Schedule nursing and health team staff.
- Prepare and organize heath and contact information on students attending extended school year and secure heath staff to work.
Coordinate Data Collection for Health Related Surveys:
- Year end report KDHE.
- Monthly reports.
- Immunization survey KDHE.
Knowledge Skills Training and Abilities Required:
- College Degree from an accredited university with a BS in Nursing.
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas.
- Knowledgeable in both community health nursing and public health nursing responsibilities.
- Current knowledge of primary health care theory and practices.
- Current knowledge of basic human physical and psychosocial needs.
- Ability to apply primary health care techniques to specific patient situations.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal directions.
- Possession of a valid Class C Kansas Drivers License.
- Additional licenses or certifications may be required.
- Ability to observe and follow district policies at all times.
- Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner meeting deadlines as assigned.
- Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Must verify good health by passing a physical examination that includes TB and drug test as required.
- Other duties as assigned by district administration.
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
- Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
Terms of Employment: At Will. Salary to be established by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the USD 450 Board of Educations policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and this job description.
