We are currently seeking a permanent full-time Senior Staff Accountant to join our Head Office Accounting team. The Senior Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of the BIG Group of Companies. This position blends hands-on full-cycle accounting with leadership mentorship and process oversight. Youll support accurate and timely financial reporting oversee critical accounting workflows (including commissions) and help guide a collaborative accounting team all while working closely with internal stakeholders across the organization.

What does the Senior Staff Accountant do
As the Senior Staff Accountant you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy integrity and consistency of financial operations across the BIG Group of Companies. This role combines hands-on full-cycle accounting with workflow oversight mentorship and cross-functional collaboration to support timely reporting compliance and continuous improvement. Youll act as a trusted financial partner within the organization while helping guide and support the accounting this role you will:
- Oversee daily accounting workflows to ensure efficiency accuracy and consistency.
- Manage full-cycle accounting including commissions A/P A/R and month-end close.
- Prepare review and analyze monthly financial reports.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure data integrity across entities.
- Support audit preparation and respond to auditor requests.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards regulations and internal policies.
- Act as a key contact for commission-related inquiries and accounting support requests.
- Use QuickBooks and financial systems effectively recommending improvements as needed.
- Mentor and support team members to promote collaboration and development.
- Contribute to process improvements and special projects as required.

Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Accounting Bookkeeping Finance or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a finance or accounting role.
- Minimum 1 year of experience mentoring or overseeing finance administration processes.
- Strong proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks or similar) & Microsoft Excel.
- Previous experience in the insurance industry (an asset).
- CPA designation or currently working toward CPA certification (an asset).
