GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


In the absence of the supervisor assists in leading and training employees. Working with the supervisor on planning and the execution of special projects reporting equipment repairs and special requests and management of supplies and equipment. Will assist in the security of state buildings and assist in the proper care and maintenance of state buildings.

This position will work collaboratively with others to provide a clean and safe environment for the employees and public occupying State facilities. This position is responsible for general cleaning in various areas and on a variety of different surfaces.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.


  • Responsible for general cleaning vacuuming floors and furniture emptying trash and recycling containers dusting mopping sanitizing washing windows and mirrors and cleaning/stocking restrooms bathrooms and offices.
  • Learns where custodial supplies are kept and replenishes supplies when needed.
  • Observe and identify areas that need repair and submit information to the supervisor.
  • Complies with state and federal policies such as OSHA and EPA.
  • Operates and maintains equipment including hand and shop tools.
  • Moves furniture and sets up conference rooms for meetings and events.
  • Performs designated watchman rounds to ensure security and safety checks building systems for proper function and updates security logs.
  • Performs chemical renovations.
  • Daily - maintain a log of time job duties and plans for all employees.
  • Take charge of a crew in the supervisors absence by regulating workflow and ensuring daily duties and special projects are completed.
  • Track employee work time and help employees complete their timesheets.
  • Conduct verbal discipline for minor infractions and provide employees with direction on work attire etc.
  • Address customer complaints or requests; document all issues including employee performance and crew activities and report to the Supervisor.
  • Provide New Employees or refresher training.
  • Assist the supervisor with suggestions on necessary staffing and assist in planning and scheduling for special projects.
  • Maintain or assist the supervisor in updating Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Basic cleaning sanitizing and trash removal.
  • Perform detailed vacuuming and hard-surface floor care.
  • Recycling of paper plastic cardboard aluminum etc.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:


Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience working with cleaning materials and chemicals.


KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of safety and regulations.
  • Knowledge of agency policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge of light and heavy-duty equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic math.
  • Knowledge of materials supplies equipment and methods of more technical cleaning and maintenance.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Associates Degree
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Building and Grounds Assistant
OR
Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Building and Grounds Assistant

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to hazardous materials bodily fluids chemicals bio-hazards and/or elements.
  • Must be able to drive vehicles and/or operate large complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.
