Heres What You Need
H.S. Diploma or Equivalent is required
Other - CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency is required
6 Months experience as a phlebotomist or completion of a one semester course in phlebotomy is preferred
Phlebotomy skills are Strongly preferred
Hospital experience is a plus
PBT(ASCP) - Phlebotomy Technician Upon Hire is preferred And
BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly is required
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to function in a fast-paced environment. Strong critical thinking problem solving and organizational skills. Proficient in basic computer skills. Prefer: Venipuncture skills with all age groups.
What You Will Do
For those entities performing phlebotomy; employee follows laboratory procedure for specimen collection patient identification and labeling as appropriate for the age of the patient
Follows laboratory procedures for handling and processing in a manner which is appropriate and follows safety guidelines
Follows laboratory procedures for handling unacceptable specimens
Helps other hospital and laboratory coworkers to provide timely patient care
Demonstrates ability to perform specimen processing protocols
Checks outstanding collection list
Troubleshoots and follows through on outstanding collections which appear to have not been collected/received when expected
