Job Description

The Department of Biochemistry Chemistry and Geology at Minnesota State University Mankato invites applications for a probationary Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 17 2026. This position requires teaching and advising to support the undergraduate programs in Biochemistry and Chemistry. This position requires teaching and advising to support the undergraduate programs in Biochemistry and Chemistry and related science engineering technology healthcare and other fields. This position requires active engagement in scholarship advising of undergraduate student majors continuing preparation and services to the University community and discipline.

  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.

  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.

  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face hybrid and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus online and/or at the universitys additional locations as assigned.

  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design instruction and evaluation conduct research productively and mentor students in research help create innovative strategies for student recruitment retention and completion and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.

  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research in continuing preparation and study in contributing to student growth and development and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFOMaster Agreement)

  • The successful candidates primary teaching duties include lecture and laboratory components in our universitys 100-level general organic and biochemistry (GOB) series 300-level organic chemistry lecture and lab courses and/or courses consistent with the candidates expertise.

  • This position will advise undergraduate majors

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from a wide range of diverse backgrounds and to foster a professional environment that is inclusive respectful and equitable for all.

  • Doctorate or terminal degree in Medicinal Pharmaceutical or Organic Chemistry; Chemical Biology Chemistry or Biochemistry (conferred on an official transcript and received in Human Resources on or before August 17 2026).

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching chemistry.

  • Research expertise in medicinal or pharmaceutical chemistry or synthetic drug design complementary to our biochemistry and chemistry faculty.

  • Evidence of completing at least two graduate level courses in medicinal and/or organic chemistry or at least two semesters of teaching experience in major-level medicinal or organic chemistry (graduate assistant experience accepted).

Preferred Qualification

  • Demonstrated experience fostering an inclusive equitable and respectful environment while working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated effective written oral communication and presentation skills.

  • College or university-level chemistry teaching experience in lectures and labs.

  • Experience with use and maintenance of instruments in organic chemistry and lab safety practices.

  • Evidence of and willingness to mentor undergraduate student research in medicinal or pharmaceutical chemistry or synthetic drug design.

  • Demonstrated willingness to work individually and collaboratively as a member of a team.

  • Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.

  • Research expertise in medicinal or pharmaceutical chemistry or synthetic drug design complementary to our biochemistry and chemistry faculty.

  • Potential to secure external grant funding.

  • Post-doctoral experience

  • Relevant industrial or government laboratory experience.

Our department offers bachelor degrees in biochemistry (including an ASBMB approved degree) chemistry (including an ACS approved degree) chemistry teaching; and minors in chemistry and geology. The Biochemistry Chemistry and Geology Department currently has 14 tenure track faculty who are represented by a faculty union. Our department is focused on teaching and undergraduate research opportunities.
