Job Summary

Job Summary

The Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager – Environment Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for independently managing EHS functions at a pharmaceutical manufacturing site. The role ensures full compliance with statutory regulatory and corporate EHS requirements effective management of environmental systems and occupational safety and readiness for regulatory and customer audits.

Key Responsibilities

1. Environment Management

  • Ensure full compliance with Environmental regulations (CPCB/SPCB MoEF&CC local statutory bodies).

  • Independently manage ETP/STP ZLD systems (if applicable) air pollution control systems and environmental monitoring.

  • Oversee hazardous waste solvent waste used oil e-waste plastic waste and biomedical waste management.

  • Lead implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.

  • Coordinate environmental audits inspections and interactions with regulatory authorities.

2. Health & Safety Management

  • Implement and drive Safety Management Systems as per Factories Act OSHA and pharma industry best practices.

  • Conduct and review HIRA JSA QRA and ensure risk controls for high-risk activities.

  • Ensure safe handling storage and disposal of hazardous chemicals APIs solvents intermediates and compressed gases.

  • Lead incident/accident investigations root cause analysis and CAPA implementation.

  • Develop and conduct safety trainings inductions and contractor safety programs.

  • Ensure compliance with fire safety systems emergency preparedness on-site and off-site emergency plans and mock drills.

3. Compliance Audits & Regulatory Interface

  • Ensure EHS readiness for regulatory and customer audits (USFDA WHO MHRA PMDA etc.).

  • Close audit observations within defined timelines and prevent recurrence.

  • Maintain EHS records SOPs permits licenses and statutory registers.

  • Act as site EHS representative during inspections by statutory authorities.

4. Sustainability & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead energy conservation water stewardship waste reduction and sustainability projects.

  • Monitor EHS KPIs analyze trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Support digitalization of EHS processes and reporting systems.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong expertise in pharma EHS compliance and regulatory frameworks

  • Hands-on experience with ETP/STP hazardous waste chemical safety

  • Excellent audit handling and authority-interface capability

  • Incident investigation and risk management expertise

  • Leadership skills with ability to influence cross-functional teams

  • Strong documentation communication and training skills

Education & Experience

Education

  • . (Environmental Science / Chemistry) or B.E./ – Environmental / Chemical / Mechanical Engineering

Experience

  • Minimum 10–15 years of EHS experience in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

  • Proven experience independently handling site-level EHS operations
