Under the direction of the Program Director for Dental Hygiene the Dental Assistant is responsible for providing support in the CMC Oral Health Clinic through chairside assisting. The primary role is to support the general dentists delivering care in the dental hygiene educational oral health clinic. Secondary is to support the dental hygiene program in the oral health clinic. The dental Assistant opens the clinic prepares the patient for the treatment assists the dentist in performing their treatment to the patient in general dentistry prepares materials and equipment for treatment and have them ready for the dentists use takes radiographs and assists the dentist in laboratory work. The dental assistant may perform other related work to include but not limited to making appointments answering the phone managing supplies and submitting the dental billing and managing the laundry needs of the entire clinic.
Must have ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with all dental staff administrative staff and community agency personnel. Evenings and weekends are required.
This is a part-time position which is limited to 28 hours per CMCs workweek. CMCs workweek is Saturday through Friday.
Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)
Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position. Examples may include a high school diploma or equivalent and one year experience as a dental assistant or equivalent dental assisting education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position. Position requires advanced technical knowledge and skills. Proof of completing radiation safety course preferred. Current CPR certification is required.
The OSAP-DALE Foundation Dental Infection Prevention and Control Certificate preferred or ability to obtain in 3 months required.
Experience in providing support of a dental or dental hygiene clinic or related field and demonstrated competence in higher education administration as it relates to dental program administration preferred.
Special Skills or abilities related to position require demonstrated knowledge of dental health education ability to complete forms in an orderly and accurate manner and able to use sound judgment. Possess a calm disposition and the ability to work easily with people. The role needs to be extreme flexibility and cooperation with the dentist chairside assisting and dental terminology knowledge experience with 3D scanner and general dentistry procedures familiarity with medical terminology and aseptic technique ability to communicate effectively in Spanish and English willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced dental environment. Must have a deep ethical foundation extreme professionalism love of dentistry education and students. Must exhibit a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic socio-economic cultural and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities along with strict adherence to FERPA and HIPAA laws. Responsibility for confirming and scheduling patients. Confidence to collect patient payments. Make follow-up calls for treatment and recall. Check and respond to daily emails. Assist with other office duties as requested or needed.

The hiring pay rate is $ 21.63 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution annual and sick time mental health resources and tuition benefit. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidates skill and experience. Although a hiring rate is listed this will be set commensurate with the successful candidates qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Essential Duties
Assist the dentist chairside during procedures ensuring patient comfort and safety
Utilize knowledge of dental terminology and procedures to support the dental team.
Perform 3D scans and assist with general dentistry prosthodontics and endodontics.
Maintain infection prevention (OSHA) and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Utilize bilingual skills to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking patients.
Support the Oral Health Clinic and dental hygiene program with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing patient records.
Be a role model for dental hygiene students in the educational environment.
Back up as needed to the clinical faculty and staff.
Greets patients in waiting area and escorts patients to the operator
Prepares and maintains dental instruments supplies and equipment.
Collects and records of patient health histories
Patient management during dental procedures and Instrument transfers
Dental procedure isolation techniques
Prepares dental materials cements amalgam composite impression materials etc...
Supports prevention and management of dental medical emergencies
Supports inventory control and management
Delivers patient personal oral care instructions
Applies topical fluoride treatments as needed
Places topical anesthetics
Removes excess cement from fabricated restorations
Fabricates mouth guards temporary crowns custom impression trays
Supports maintenance of all clinic equipment and dental unit water line and evacuation systems.

Special Conditions of Employment
Successful completion of a background check will be required including motor vehicles records report. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned. Some evenings and weekends may possibly be required.
Working Conditions
This position requires constant sitting occasional walking standing; occasional handling objects pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms and use of finger movements; occasional lifting carrying pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oralcommunication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily.
