Bethune-Cookman University Job Title: Assistant Professor Psychology Reporting Structure: Department Chair Psychology Division: College of Nursing and Health Sciences
Job Summary: The Department of Psychology at Bethune-Cookman University invite applications for a fulltime tenure-track Psychology Assistant Professor position to support the undergraduate program. The area of specialization is open although preference will be given to applicants with expertise in clinical psychology behavioral neuroscience/biopsychology developmental psychology and/or African/Black psychology. Applicants will also be expected to assist in meeting the normal service needs of the department. Additionally expertise and ability to teach one or more of the following courses is preferable: research methods statistics developmental psychology cognitive psychology physiological psychology psychology of aging and African/Black Psychology
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide appropriate student supervision in the assigned courses.
- Effectively deliver curricular content.
- Participate in curricular development revision and change.
- Develop course examinations and/or resources.
- Improve teaching skills by seeking new knowledge and maintaining currency in professional competencies.
- Collect record. maintain and submit accurate class records including grades and attendance to meet university policies.
- Advise and evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to Institutional and Program outcomes.
- Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of course syllabi program outlines handouts etc.
- Be familiar with Institutional and Department policies and procedures.
- Attend University sponsored events.
- Participate in recruiting and retention efforts. Participates on University Committees as assigned.
- Academic advising
- Student club advising
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities: - Excellence in teaching and service (For PhD faculty a commitment to an active research agenda is also required).
- Ability to teach at least four (4) courses each semester.
- Online teaching experience is preferred but is not required.
- Regularly scheduled office hours are mandatory (10 hours per week minimum) Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
- Education and Experience:
- Ph.D. in Psychology or related field
Physical Requirements: - Working environment is a normal business office setting.
- Demands normal manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
- Must be mobile throughout the campus.
- Typically the incumbent may sit comfortably to do the work. However there may be some walking standing bending or carrying of light items.
