Job Summary

Who We Are:CAMBA is a community of staff volunteers clients donors neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development Family Support Job Training & Employment Support Services Health Housing and Legal Services. We reach almost 80000 individuals and families including almost 13000 serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are living in poverty reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

CAMBA operates 6 single adult shelters and 6 family shelters and one drop in center. Each shelter offers clients a supportive structured therapeutic safe and drug-free facility. Homeless (often mentally-ill and substance-abusing) men and women are provided with comprehensive services to stabilize their condition in order to successfully transition into to permanent and/or supported housing.

CAMBAs Flagstone Family Center provides comprehensive case management services to 160 families who are in a Tier II transitional residence program for homeless families. The facility consists of eight (8) four (4) story walk up apartment buildings on the east and west sides of the street. There will be two main entrances: one for the east side of the street and one for the west. Each building contains 20 apartments of varying sizes each fully self-contained.

Position: Driver/ Maintenance Worker

Reports To: Director of Security and Operations

Location: 199 Amboy Street Brooklyn NY 11212

What The Driver/ Maintenance Worker Does:

The person filling this position is expected under close supervision to: (1) operate a variety of company vehicles to transport passengers such as clients employees and/or supplies and materials; (2) make repairs paint and perform other upkeep functions to maintain the organizations physical facilities and clients apartments; (3) load unload and carry furniture client belongings and supplies upstairs and move furniture and supplies as needed; (4) clean exterior grounds around building and dumpster; (5) fulfill courier/messenger tasks in addition to maintenance tasks;

  • Maintain professional relationships with clients and client confidentiality.
  • Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures.
  • Comply with any and all Federal State City and CAMBA security and privacypolicesintended to protect the security and privacy of individually identifiable health information.
  • Identifyand document all maintenance issues onworkorder form.
  • Immediately report maintenance equipment issues (i.e. inoperable missing etc.)
  • Comply with all maintenance regulatory requirements at all times.
  • Perform inspections of units to ensure safe conditions.
  • Utilizeappropriate safetystandards (i.e. wear safety goggles masksappropriate attire) and display safety signs when performing tasks.
  • Clean rugs carpets upholstered furniture window blinds and draperies.
  • Clean and sanitize toilets sinks tubs showers shower fixtures including walls floors curtains stalls and mirrors.
  • Replace light bulbs light fixtures light covers electrical outlet covers and ballasts as needed.
  • Dust and/or wipe furniture equipment and ceiling fans.
  • Separate and transport trash recyclables and waste to disposal area andconsolidatefor pickup.
  • Respond to and prepare for inclement weather (i.e. prepare sandbags tie down loose outdoor items remove snow and/or ice from the sidewalksdrivewaysand stairs etc.).
  • Clean storm drains and gutters to ensure proper drainage.
  • Polish metalwork including lighting fixtures.
  • Replenish bathroom supplies including toilet tissue paper towels and hand soap.
  • Wash walls ceiling woodwork windows sills and door panels heating and coolingventsand air conditioner filters.
  • Plaster and paintinteriorsof buildings.
  • Replace door handles or locks as needed.
  • Remove graffiti from interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Replace cracked or missing floor tiles walltilesand ceilingtilesas necessary.
  • Perform daily pre-trip vehicle inspection prior to first trip of the day.
  • Immediately report vehicle and/or equipment that are inoperable missing or improperlyutilized.
  • Complete vehicle travel log for all trips.
  • Assistpassengers needingassistancein order toenter and/or exitvehicle.
  • Keepvehicleclean and/or free of litter at all times.
  • May make minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • May escort clients to appointments.
  • Tasks may bemodifiedexpandedand/or assigned over time.

Education Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

  • Sufficient education tocomprehendwritten and oral instructions (work orders); toaccomplishmaintenance tasks; and to document accomplished tasks.

Minimum Experiences and Skills Required:

  • Technicalexpertise

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish.

Pre and/or Post Employment Requirements:

  • Must haveValid New York State Drivers License and excellent driving history.
  • Must completeNYS Approved Defensive Driving Classes every 3 years.
  • Must take Refresher Computerized Defensive Driver class
  • Must remain insurable based on CAMBAs point system throughout the duration of employment.
  • If required to drive 15 passengervanmustscore at least 80%oncomputerized15 passenger van improvement test every year.
  • If required to drive 15 passenger van must passanobserved Van Road Test
  • Acknowledge review of CAMBAs Transportation Policy.
  • Must sign NYC DOH/MH attestationstatingthat candidate has not been the subject of a founded child abuse report.

Compensation: $19.06 hourly

Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
