Pay

:

HK$61973 to HK$140903 (HGPS point 25 to 44) per month including Monthly Allowance

Up to 15% of total basic salary (after deducting the contribution of Mandatory Provident Fund by Hospital Authority) as contract gratuity may be offered to contract staff at the end of each 3 years during the 9-year contract period subject to satisfactory performance.

Key Responsibilities:

The Scientific Officer (Medical) shall be responsible to the Head of Laboratory Department in performing the following duties:

1.

To lead the operation and research & development activities related to molecular testing for immunohaematology inter alia red cell and platelet blood group genotyping;

2.

To participate in activities related to resolving complex immunohematology problems in referral cases and donor blood grouping so as to support safe transfusion practices and help manage rare blood donor programme;

3.

To engage in test / service quality assurance and research & development activities in the entire spectrum of laboratory operation at the BTS;

4.

To control maintain and improve the quality and safety standards of laboratory services*;

5.

To provide training to technical staff and junior medical staff;

6.

To sign out laboratory reports;

7.

To carry out laboratory managerial duties including human resources management budgetary forecast and control and procurement;

8.

To assess new equipment and technology and to plan and monitor new services;

9.

To perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

Entry Requirements:

Either one of the following qualifications:

1.

(a)

A Masters degree in clinical science subject from a local university or equivalent.

(b)

A degree in an appropriate subject related to the sub-specialties in Pathology from a local university or equivalent and 2 years experience.

Preferable Attributes/Exposure:

1.

A Certificate of Registration (Part I) and a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Medical Laboratory Technologist Board Hong Kong.

2.

Working experience in blood transfusion service and/or blood banking;

3.

Sound knowledge in medical laboratory accreditation;

4.

Practical knowledge and experience of immunohaematology and advanced molecular assays including result interpretation as well as data analysis.

5.

Liaison skills for clinical problems and analytical sciences.

6.

Creativity.

7.

Commitment to patient care.

8.

Leadership.

9.

Interpersonal skills.
