HK$61973 to HK$140903 (HGPS point 25 to 44) per month including Monthly Allowance Up to 15% of total basic salary (after deducting the contribution of Mandatory Provident Fund by Hospital Authority) as contract gratuity may be offered to contract staff at the end of each 3 years during the 9-year contract period subject to satisfactory performance. | |
Key Responsibilities: | |
The Scientific Officer (Medical) shall be responsible to the Chief of Service in performing the following duties: | |
Primary Duties | |
1. | Test development and research. |
2. | Quality assurance. |
3. | In-house training for technical staff and junior Medical and Health Officers. |
4. | Contribute to service provision and signing out of laboratory reports in some specialties. |
Complementary and Supportive Duties | |
1. | Participate in the management of laboratory |
2. | Assess new equipment and technology which may be applied to HA. |
3. | Advise clinicians on appropriate tests to perform and interpretation of results. |
Entry Requirements: Either one of the following qualifications : | |
1. | A Masters degree in clinical science subject from a local university or equivalent. |
2. | A degree in an appropriate subject related to the sub-specialties in Pathology from a local university or equivalent and 2 years experience. |
Preferred Attributes / Exposure: | |
1. | At least 3 years experience in the field of genetics and genomics with solid experience spanning from sample preparation laboratory procedures to computational data analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequencing data. |
2. | Knowledge and experience in analysis of clinical cancer genetic/genomic or pharmacogenetic/pharmacogenomic data including the use of publicly available genomic databases. |
3. | Experience in laboratory protocol development and performance of next-generation sequencing tests in different tissue types including formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue. |
4. | Experience in quality assurance on genomic tests. |
5. | Liaison skills for clinical problems and analytical sciences. |
6. | Creativity. |
7. | Commitment to patient care in planning laboratory services. |
8. | Leadership. |
9. | Good interpersonal skills and being able to work as a team |

Advancing Precision Oncology: Discuss the challenges in development of genomic tests for targeted cancer therapeutics based on formalin-fixed paraffin embedded cancer tissue or cell-free DNA in plasma. Suggest strategies including recent advances to overcome these challenges. |
