Hybrid - This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Oshawa Assembly three times per week at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.

GM Canada Environmental is charging ahead with a new mission! At GM Environmental we are geared towards developing creative solutions to environmental will develop an understanding of environmental compliance globally in large automotive manufacturing and non-manufacturing operations and drive sustainable initiatives as you work closely with the facility Environmental Engineers implementing projects in waste water air and various other regulatory programs. Role Summary:
General Motors of Canada is committed to protecting human health and the environment and driving continuous improvement. Join our environmental team to gain experience in support of maintaining compliance implementing best-practices work standardization and training across a multitude of GM global manufacturing and non-manufacturing operations. The position is located primarily at the GM Oshawa with periodic visits to various GM sites in St Catharines Michigan and others as well as some opportunity to work remote (work from home).

The Team:

The Environmental Team consists of highly trained environmental professionals who serve as a first-line resource for our manufacturing and non-manufacturing business partners. We are proficient at implementing robust environmental and sustainability practices into daily business decisions and operations to comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations while fostering community connection. We work collaboratively with our service suppliers community partners regulatory agencies environmental consultants and legal counsel staff.

The preferred candidate will be a self-motivated confident science or engineering student with strong problem solving interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate will be required to work with minimal supervision and will be expected to continually improve the operation for their area. Candidate must have a valid drivers license.

As an environmental engineering intern you will work closely with the facility environmental team developing an understanding of environmental compliance in automotive manufacturing operations. You will be a part of project implementation and continuous improvement of various water waste and air programs. We are committed to developing innovative solutions to various environmental challenges as we advance towards GMs vision of Zero Crashes Zero Emissions and Zero Congestions. Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate system identifying global environmental compliance obligations related to operations at sites including storm water management wastewater treatment plant discharges air emissions spill prevention and waste/recycling management programs

  • Lead development of program to support GM vehicle/product lifecycle management and Producer Responsibility reporting

  • Support GMs Global ISO14001 Environmental Management system

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an Engineering degree; Environmental Science or Sustainable Chemistry degree Co-Op program

  • In your 3rd year of study and must be eligible to work full-time (40 hours per week) in Canada for 16 months work term (4 consecutive semesters)

  • Strong organizational problem solving and analytical skills

  • Highly adaptable with ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment

  • Self-motivated and confident to continually improve the operation of their area

  • Must have a valid full G Canadian drivers license

  • Have the ability to travel to various GM facilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Past experience in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment

  • Knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation and ISO 14001 standard

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex subjects to a wider audience

  • Consistently demonstrates innovative thinking that is customer-centric
    Excellent project management skills and the proven ability to manage numerous projects at any given

  • Possess strong organizational problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Fundamental digital literacy including understanding of MS Word Excel Access and PowerPoint
