Your opportunity

At Mission Australia we believe in the power of shared journeys to create hope and lasting change.

Community Living Supports (CLS) helps people aged 16 with mental health conditions build independence and wellbeing. Working with NSW Health and housing providers CLS support may include transitions from hospital or correctional facilities to community living focusing on daily living skills social connection and links to education training and employment.

As a Peer Worker you will draw on your own experiences of overcoming adversity to support others on their path to recovery and independence.

Through authentic connection and encouragement you will help individuals build resilience rediscover their strengths and reconnect with community because everyone deserves the chance to live well and thrive.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Use your own life experience to give hope and encourage people to believe in themselves.
  • Support people one-on-one and in groups sharing experiences and helping them feel empowered.
  • Build trusting relationships with clients and respect their boundaries.
  • Help clients understand their strengths and challenges and support them to connect with their community.
  • Work with the team to plan and run peer support groups and improve services based on feedback.
  • Do basic admin tasks like keeping records and entering data to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Requirements for success

  • You have personal experience with challenges like mental health issues disability homelessness or addiction and youre ready to use that experience to help others.
  • You understand what helps people recover and can share your story in a safe and respectful way.
  • You can build strong positive relationships with clients and other people you work with.
  • Youre a good communicator and can work well with different people and services.
  • Youre comfortable using computers and basic programs like Word and Excel.
  • You have a current Working with Children Check and Drivers Licence
  • You can handle change and work through complex situations calmly.
  • Relevant qualifications or experience or other appropriate qualification/experience acceptable to Mission Australia.

Before starting work with us you will need to undertake a national police history check qualifications and referee checks and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
