Job Summary

The UI Admission & Transfer Center (ATC) is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) to provide leadership and oversight for ATC nursing and support staff. This role is essential in ensuring safe efficient and high-quality care throughout the patient flow process.

The ATC ANM will focus on planning organizing directing and evaluating ATC operations staff engagement quality and safety initiatives clinical education and strategic growth. This leader will collaborate closely with ATC administrative and clinical leadership to support timely and effective patient care coordination.

The ATC ANM leads and manages functions of the Admission Transfer Center (ATC) team to ensure quality of service as well as routine monitoring thus providing the safest care for patients. Positions in this job family will have direct patient care responsibilities. Efforts will focus on planning organizing directing evaluating and improving health care operations clinical and education programs of clinical departments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Direct supervision of ATC clinical and administrative staff.

  • Oversight of patient flow and coordination of care to ensure adherence to best practices.

  • Advancement of staff education and professional development.

  • Monitoring workflows to optimize efficiency and improve patient experience.

  • Driving continuous improvement in communication quality and patient safety.

This position will directly report to the ATC Nurse Manager.

Position Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership/ & Human Resource Leadership:
  • Provides day-to-day operational leadership for the Admission & Transfer Center ensuring coordinated efficient clinical services and uninterrupted patient care.
  • Leads workforce management including hiring onboarding performance management evaluations discipline attendance oversight and succession planning.
  • Ensures staff understand performance expectations and are held accountable to patient-centered care collaboration and professional standards.
  • Ensures compliance with UIHC policies labor agreements federal regulations and leave/accommodation requirements.
  • Creates a positive work environment that supports recruitment retention engagement and service excellence.
Quality Safety & Excellence:
  • Establishes quality assurance priorities identifies trends and leads improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety care quality and employee satisfaction.
  • Oversees adherence to clinical standards evidence-based practice Just Culture principles and institutional policies.
  • Ensures accuracy and quality in all patient communication and documentation.
  • Maintains survey readiness across staffing competencies policies and physical environment.
Patient Flow & Care Continuum Optimization:
  • Guides the continuum of care by coordinating admissions transfers and capacity management to support timely access and optimal outcomes.
  • Monitors patient volume acuity and complexity and adjusts staffing and priorities accordingly.
  • May partner with multidisciplinary teams to improve care coordination continuity and patient/family experience.
Staff Development & Team Performance:
  • Develops a high-performing team through coaching education mentoring and professional development.
  • Promotes staff participation in decision-making quality improvement and service excellence initiatives.
  • Supports specialty certification regulatory competency and ongoing education for staff and learners.
  • Builds collaborative relationships manages conflict effectively and fosters teamwork and accountability.
  • Invests in personal leadership development and benchmarking to infuse best practices.
  • Participates in the implementation of new services technologies and workflows.
  • Supports changes in nursing care using evidence-based practice
Additional Responsibilities :
  • Patriciate in the departments leadership on-call rotation taking call as scheduled which requires remaining available outside standard business hours to address clinical or operational needs.
  • Provides oversight and management of staff leave in ELMS including approvals corrections and scheduling adjustments.
  • Ensures that all employees work professionally and collaboratively with all UI and external patients staff faculty etc.
  • Encourage staff/employees to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations.
  • Exercise strong stewardship of university resources and promotes fiscal accountability among staff.
  • Review and utilize performance data and customer feedback to drive operational and strategic decisions.

Percent of Time: 100%

Schedule: Monday-Friday day hours with evenings and weekend hours as necessary.
Staff Type:Professional and Scientific
Pay Plan: position is eligible forhybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Education Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate in Nursing is required.

Experience Requirements:

  • 1 years of nursing experience with demonstrated skills in leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency with computer software applications (such as Microsoft programs).
  • Demonstrates time management organization of workload delegation attention to detail and thoroughness.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills.
Certification/Licensure Requirements:
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa.
  • Certification in a role or specialty through a nationally recognized professional nursing certification body.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous experience serving in a Nurse Manager Nursing Supervisor and/or Assistant Nurse Manager role.
  • 3-5 years current experience in clinical practice is preferred.
  • Leadership experience in an emergency medicine or critical care environment is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working within a nursing call center.
  • Previous job-related experience in a hospital setting.
  • Leadership experience in an organized union environment.
  • Masters Degree (MSN MBA or MHA) preferred.
