The Multnomah County Transportation Division is seeking an energetic and motivated full-time Transportation Project Specialist to join our Bridge Engineering team. This is a unique chance to work on complex capital improvement projects on Portlands iconic Willamette River bridges and contribute to a safe and efficient transportation system that supports economic and community vitality.

As a Transportation Project Specialist you will manage and lead the design and construction of capital projects of intermediate complexity on County roads and bridges. You will coordinate with project teams review contract documents implement state and federal regulations and communicate with Division management to ensure on time and on budget completion. You will have strong project management skills and have the ability to work in a highly flexible and team-oriented environment.

Your duties will include:

• Overseeing design development construction inspection public involvement environmental and administrative tasks in the design and construction of bridge rehabilitation road storm drainage traffic safety improvements traffic signals and other public works projects
• Overseeing work of inspectors and other project team members to ensure projects are delivered according to contract documents
• Coordinating scheduling of inspections
• Reviewing documentation produced by inspectors including paynotes and daily reports
• Preparing and monitoring project cost and budget information
• Maintaining project records and verifying project completion and final reports
• Inspecting capital construction projects of varying types and complexities for compliance/ adherence/conformance to contract plans and County/State standards
• Coordinating inspections across multiple active construction projects to ensure adequate resources are available
• Leading regular coordination meetings with project teams to schedule inspections as needed

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

• Equivalent to a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering construction engineering management project management or related field (in lieu of a degree we will consider equivalent work related experience)
• Three (3) to six (6) years of experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position
• Valid drivers license

• Clear and concise verbal and written communication and presentation skills
• Ability to problem solve collaboratively as part of a team or individually
• Exhibit and support a culture of exceptional customer service equity and inclusiveness
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment by building rapport and promoting cooperation among team members
• Ability to interpret and apply federal state and local rules laws standards regulations and policies to assigned work

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Type of Position: This hourly union-represented position is eligible for overtime.

Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (flexible schedules may be allowed)

Location: Multnomah County Bridge Shop: 1403 SE Water Ave. Portland OR 97214

Telework: At this time this position is designated for hybrid telework meaning you will be working on-site at least three (3) days per week. The designation of hybrid telework may be subject to change at a future time. Currently all employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the County cannot support ongoing telework from other locations.
