Primary Purpose
Qualified Helicopter Instructors (QHIs) are responsible for the maintenance of the highest standards of flying instruction.
Designated Functions
The functions of the QHI are:
- To take a close interest in the progress and welfare of trainees acting as a professionalpersonal and morale mentor.
Execute sorties as required to carry out Squadron tasking.
Support and augment the Front Line as required by Merlin Helicopter Force.
Principal Tasks
The QHI is to execute the following tasks:
- Conduct flying operations as detailed by the Training Office.
- Act as Duty Instructor as detailed by 824 Naval Air Squadron 1LT.
- If qualified and authorised to do so act as a Squadron Flight Authoriser / Supervisor
- Conduct Station Duties as directed by the Executive Officer 824 Naval Air Squadron.
Superiors
The QHI is accountable to the Senior Pilot (SP) of 824 Naval Air Squadron.

Authority
The QHI is authorised to:
Conduct all Pilot related periodic assessments as laid down in MAA MRP Fly 2000 series and BRd 767.
Liaise with Naval Flying Standards Flight (RW) and other external agencies with the approval of the Senior Pilot in matters pertaining to the execution of their primary task.
Signature
The post holder and the superior Officer should annotate their understanding and agreement of these TORs by digitally signing the green tab in the 824 NAS Squadron Structure spreadsheet
