Position Overview
MxD is a non-profit public-private partnership dedicated to digitally transforming and securing U.S. manufacturing. We are seeking an experienced leader in relationship management strategic engagement and business development to fill the role of Vice President of Industry Engagement. This key position which reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is part of the senior leadership team is responsible for effectively communicating and supporting delivery of MxDs value proposition to its members and broader stakeholders.
The Vice President of Industry Engagement will play a crucial role in building and maintaining strong relationships with members and strategic partners which will have a significant impact on the US industrial this role the Vice President will oversee the industry engagement member recruitment and retention and MxD event programming collaborating with department leaders to implement strategies that provide measurable value for members attract new members and enhance MxDs national presence and overall impact.
They should possess a deep understanding of developing and managing stakeholder relationships within an organization. Relevant professional experience at the enterprise level in ecosystem development strategic consulting enterprise sales or customer relations/partner engagement management is essential for success in this role.
As a national manufacturing institute MxD is at the forefront of the latest advancements in manufacturing technology. This position provides a hands-on results-oriented self-starter the chance to oversee and grow a robust external engagement strategy. You will play a vital role in attracting and retaining top-tier industry members thereby establishing a lasting platform for MxDs impact across the American industrial base. Position Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Lead the Industry Engagement team and guide direct reports and individual teammates to develop professionally; successfully manage and support division teams to develop and implement strategies that meet key targets and identified outcomes
- Serve on the MxD executive team supporting organization-wide priorities and acting as the principal liaison between the executive team the Industry Engagement division and key stakeholders of priority communications and updates
- Establish models and procedures for industry member and partner recruitment retention and stakeholder engagement across primary focus areas: digital manufacturing supply chain cybersecurity and manufacturing workforce development
- Develop and manage key performance metrics to demonstrate department efforts
Member and Partner Network Growth
- Oversee development of industry member and partner recruitment and retention strategies; identify targeted prospects and build relationships with key points of contact at prospect accounts
- Develop and implement strategic programs and campaigns to advance MxDs priorities and community impact with potential and current members and key stakeholders
- Establish sales support processes systems and metrics including expansion and management of CRM platforms such as HubSpot or Salesforce
Member Partner & Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Lead and strengthen a high standard of client engagement focused on customer satisfaction
- Create and implement sustainable programs that help inform and educate stakeholders media policymakers and donors on MxDs priorities impact and brand
- Deliver value by ensuring MxD is a world-class convening space for members and partner- hosted events.
- Partner with experts in industry membership government and internal staff to define and deliver content at MxD events that convene and promote industry innovations and best practices
- Institute procedures and best practices for industry and company research and analysis. Prepare the leadership team for member and stakeholder engagements.
- This position requires up to 25% travel.
Position Requirements
- 15 years of professional history that combines experience in at least some of the following areas: leading teams customer/investor relations public-private initiatives strategy consulting and/or business development at a successful enterprise
- Bachelors degree required; major in marketing or business operations highly encouraged. MBA or other relevant Masters degree preferred.
- Expert relationship manager with a strong executive presence ability to interact effectively at the highest level of an organization and the savvy to communicate and synthesize complex issues crisply clearly and convincingly
- Proven track record of results through a demonstrated ability to develop mid- to long-term strategies and lead the team through their implementation
- Proven experience developing programs that drive awareness of MxD services or product offerings targeting prospective and existing members and key stakeholders
- Experience leading through organizational change with exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with senior-level executives and stakeholders; strong team player
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others and build business relationships throughout the organization and external contacts
- Superior influencing skills and ability to gain respect of and build a rapport with multiple constituencies internally and externally
- Strong research acumen with an understanding of emerging issues and technologies key public and private players and their intersection with the work and mission of MxD
- Experience with leading customer relationship management software programs
- Must be available to work onsite on an as-needed basis to support MxD personnel and for other onsite events

- MxD is a 10-minute walk from the North and Clybourn Red Line stop a 20-minute walk from the Division Blue Line stop and accessible by a variety of other public transit options. MxD partners with ABM transportation to provide a free shuttle from various public transit stops in and around the Downtown Chicago area to MxD. Also MxD provides free parking for employees.
