About this Role

We are looking for an entry to mid-level Case Evaluation Economist to join our business development team.

Our business development team is responsible for conducting early-stage economic analysis of anticompetitive conduct. Our ability to support law firms globally in the crucial case development phase differentiates Fideres from all other economic consultancies.

Our ability to deal with complex datasets limited information and span across all major sectors of the economy make this role attractive to those seeking a purpose driven employment mixing strong analytical skills with creativity.

Key Accountabilities

Some notable responsibilities will include:

  • Analyse anticompetitive corporate conduct including assessing theories of harm market definition developing preliminary damages models.
  • Conducting detailed statistical analysis of market manipulation allegations as part of the delivery of Fideres expert consulting mandates
  • Produce clear and concise reports summarising the key findings of the analysis
  • Verbally presenting key findings to clients in a manner that allows them to understand both the results and how they impact their own clients
  • Writing periodic blogs exploring new and developing competition economic themes
  • Responding to client requests in a timely and helpful fashion
  • Depending on experience mentor new analysts on report writing and presentations
  • Maintaining accurate records of all billable hours spent on each project

Key Skills and Attributes

The successful candidate will have:

  • MSc in Economics or the equivalent qualification (Undergraduate degree in Economics would also be considered)
  • Passion for competition policy and market regulation and a strong desire to address corporate misconduct and correct market distortions
  • Some work experience in an economic consultancy or at a regulator for those applying at a more experienced level
  • Fluent spoken and written French Italian or Spanish would be highly desirable but is not essential
  • Knowledge of key competition economics topics
  • The ability to write insightful reports in particular the ability to express (verbal and written) complex issues in simple terms understandable by non-specialists
  • Strong analytical skills able to get to the core issue of complex problems
  • Competence in R required. Some knowledge of Python is preferred
  • Experience with web-scraping is useful
  • Integrity and a creative curious mind
  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office in particular Excel Word and PowerPoint and Bloomberg
  • Lots of initiative and consistently looking to improve processes
  • Responsive to client needs and able to deliver solutions that meet those needs
  • Focused on delivery and committed to seeing projects through to their close
  • Not afraid to express an opinion and offer new solutions

Pre-Interview Assessments

Depending on the role you are applying for you may be asked to complete a pre-interview assessment relevant to the role. This allows us to see if you have some of the necessary technical skills required for the role and it can also give you an idea of some of the skills that would be required.

Interviews

For the majority of our roles we have a three stage interview process. The main purpose of our interviews is to further assess your technical skills your communication skills (team and client) and make sure that you have sufficiently researched what we do and the role itself. More generally it is a chance for us to get to know each other better.

A typical interview process would look a bit like this:

  • First Interview: Technical with a team member
  • Second Interview: Cultural fit interview
