About Us

The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction purchasing and contracting for goods and services maintaining facilities managing state vehicles acquiring and disposing of real property and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally the department manages many of the states advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the states population that have been traditionally underserved.

Job Duties:The North Carolina Symphony is seeking an energetic candidate who is passionate about the arts and eager to build theiradministrative acumen in support of the sector. To have a complete grasp of the nuances associated with artsadministration it is important that they engage with each unique department within the organization. The ideal intern willbe afforded the opportunity for exposure to the business and operations elements of the symphony through collaboratingand liaising with several front-facing and back-office business segments. They will receive hands-on experience throughday-to-day administration duties that directly support the North Carolina Symphony the first state-supported symphony inthe country.

Major Task to be Performed:

  • Train with the Finance & Accounting Team to be resident SME for departmental AP Automation
    Assist with planning and executing activities within the Accounts Payable Unit to support Vendor Summary
    Reporting
    Work with the Assistant VP of Finance through a Financial Statements Project
    Coordination of research and compilation of mailings lists for special projects
    Front facing customer engagement alongside the Box Office Team during summer concert series
    Train on Healthcare 101 topics to obtain a sound knowledge base in preparation for the organizations annual
    Benefits Open Enrollment period

Final Product or Outcome Anticipated: The goal of this internship is to provide the type of professional experience necessary to begin a career in arts
administration. This position will cultivate and develop the interns professional skills in project management processimprovement and technical and communication skills while contributing to a collaborative work environment and culture.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Strong organizational skills and an eye for detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proven leadership and the ability to think critically
Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
The capacity to work independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment handle multiple tasks at
once and adhere to deadlines

Preferred:
A GPA of 3.0 or higher (based on a 4.0 scale)
Relevant experience in the form of previous internships or job experience

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • An applicant must be a permanent North Carolina resident attending a college university law school community college or technical institute in North Carolina or a North Carolina resident attending an equivalent institution out of state.
  • Applicants must carry a 2.5 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicant must be a high school graduate and at least 18 years old by January 1 2026.
  • Applicants must be continuing their education in the fall following their participation in the program.
  • To qualify for a law internship applicants must have completed at least one year of law school before the beginning of the internship unless other majors are listed.
  • Students having previously held paid internships with this program are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be willing and able to work full-time for the entire 10-week internship. Applicants must be able to provide legal proof of identity and work authorization within three working days of employment.

This position will close at 11:59 p.m. the night before the end date.
