Job Summary

We have an opening for a graduate student and a for student who has received their bachelors or masters degree to engage in practical research experience to further their educational goals. Opportunity is in the Emergency Management Department (EMD) within the Infrastructure and Operations Directorate. Comprised of complex and highly diverse operations EMD is a unique department which runs 24/7 operations and involves multiple components of life safety operations for the Laboratory including Fire Protection Engineering and Fire Protection operations Planning & Preparedness Division regulatory compliance Fire Department response services training exercises and drills Emergency Operations Center Response & Support Division and Fire and Alarms Life Safety monitoring maintenance inspections installation repair and controls.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will 

  • Work with engineers and technical staff members to provide basic support to projects in the areas of fire protection inspections fire response services fire and alarms life safety and emergency operations center response programs or other related fields.
  • Participate in service support in assigned area under limited supervision.
  • Perform assignments of a basic degree of complexity and provide support and service to engineers technical staff members and/or management in the areas of fire protection inspections fire response services fire and alarms life safety and emergency operations center response programs or other related fields.
  • Gather and analyze data and information in support of scientific research.
  • Participate in research planning and evaluation discussions.
  • Attend relevant seminars and/or conferences.
  • May prepare end-of-assignment technical report seminar or poster.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). See Additional Information section below for details.
  • Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing a graduate degree or has completed their bachelors or masters degree in Fire Protection Engineering Emergency Management or other related technical field.
  • Experience applying advanced principles to solve technical problems.
  • Ability to communicate and document work.
  • Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience working with personal computers and familiarity with Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated academic achievement in Fire Protection Engineering Emergency Management or other related technical field.

Qualifications We Desire

  • GPA of 3.5 or above.

Pay Range

$6752 - $8201 Monthly

This position is under a step structure.  Please note that the step placement is determined by your most recent completed academic year.
