The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction purchasing and contracting for goods and services maintaining facilities managing state vehicles acquiring and disposing of real property and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally the department manages many of the states advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the states population that have been traditionally underserved.

Job Duties:
To provide a student interested in economic development an opportunity to gain experience working with the NC Certified Sites Program and other divisions within Commerce. The intern will gain a better understanding of competitive economic development projects strategic statewide initiatives related to large industrial projects infrastructure planning and cross-agency coordination.
Major Task to be Performed:
Tasks include several projects such as collaborating with other site certification programs; assisting the Strategic Projects team by conducting research on infrastructure requirements for confidential economic development projects reviewing infrastructure and demographic data to assess site readiness; preparing summaries; and contribute to project management activities.
Final Product or Outcome Anticipated: The intern will provide specific agreed-up deliverables depending on the projects completed during the internship. Additionally the intern will leave with hands-on experience related to site certification infrastructure development the processes associated with industrial site readiness project management and operations at the Department of Commerce.
Academic Majors Desired: Communications Economics Economic Development Finance Geography Law Political Science Public Administration Public Policy Urban Planning.
2026 State of North Carolina Internship Period: Monday May 18 Friday July 24 2026
A basic understanding of economic development urban planning and local government operations; strong verbal and written communication skills including social media and announcements; organizational and interpersonal skills to work successfully with different partners; critical and analytic thinking skills to research compile and summarize data; experience with Microsoft especially Excel to create manage and sort spreadsheets; experience with SharePoint Forms Power BI.
This position will close at 11:59 p.m. the night before the end date.
