Job Summary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Proof of high school graduationor certified GED required.
  2. Must possess a current Texas Peace OfficerIntermediate Certificate issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement(TCOLE); Texas Peace Officer Advanced Certificate preferred.
  3. Must have at least five (5) years of lawenforcement experience; previous supervisory experience preferred.
  4. Consideration will not be given to a TCOLElicense or license from another state with a GeneralDischargeDishonorable Dischargeor the equivalent notationfrom previous law enforcement jobs.
  5. Valid Texas drivers license with acceptabledrivers record.
  6. Ability to work effectively with youth as well asadults.
  7. Must be able to work day evening or night shift with days off as assigned.
  8. Must show negative on a drug and/or alcohol test to be given on a pre-employment random post-accident and/or reasonable suspicion basis in accordance with federal law and District policy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide day to day direction tothe Police Department.
  2. Provide direct supervision toPolice Department employees.
  3. Evaluate the performance of PoliceDepartment employees.
  4. Review daily work schedules forpolice officers to ensure maximum campus and District coverage withexisting manpower.
  5. Assist with the interviewsrecommendations training supervision and evaluation of members of thePolice Department.
  6. Coordinate annual in-servicetraining and firearms qualifications for police officers.
  7. Coordinate the work of the PoliceDepartment with building principals other departments and Districtadministrators.
  8. Provide immediate response tocrisis situations when called by principals.
  9. Assist building administratorswith individual campus security planning.
  10. Assist principals otherdepartments and administrators with security management and operationalprocedures for crisis situations.
  11. Secure police officers for specialevents when requested.
  12. Assign officers to provide trafficcontrol in school zones and at District events.
  13. Assist in developing andmaintaining a comprehensive District plan for the protection of studentsstaff and facilities.
  14. Coordinate work of the Districtalarm system provider resolving problems and making recommendations forimproved services.
  15. Investigate the use of deterrentdevices and systems to ensure safety in the schools.
  16. Assist in maintaining a District-wideCrisis Management plan.
  17. Provide personal protectioncampus safety and crime prevention in-service for District staff studentsand parents.
  18. Maintain plan to increaseeffectiveness of deterrence activities.
  19. Participate in community taskforce groups to gather and share information.
  20. Produce and distribute periodicreports of Police Department activities and services provided.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
  22. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  1. Tools/Equipment Used: district vehicle firearms handcuffs two-way radio alarm system and other security equipment fire extinguisher and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals.
  2. Posture: prolonged sitting and standing.
  3. Motion: strenuous walking and climbing; frequent keyboarding/mouse prolonged driving.
  4. Lifting: moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds) 10-50 pounds frequently; 50-100 pounds occasionally.
  5. Environment: work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather) moderate exposure to noise frequent district-wide travel.
  6. Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; ability to restrain resistant persons; ability to remove resistant persons with violent behavior.
  7. Mental Demands: maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours; ability to work shifts including rotating shifts/days off; may be on call 24 hours per day.
