Job Summary

Summary:

The Controller plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the financial integrity and strategic direction of a fast-growing grocery distributor based in Los Angeles CA. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions financial reporting and internal controls ensuring compliance with GAAP tax regulations and audit standards. Acting as a key advisor to executive leadership the Controller drives accurate and timely financial close processes leads comprehensive budgeting and forecasting efforts and enhances financial systems and operational efficiency to support scalable growth across the distribution network. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in food distribution finance a track record of successful financial leadership and the ability to lead high-performing teams in a demanding fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Lead all aspects of accounting operations including general ledger management and execution of month-end and year-end close cycles
Prepare and analyze financial statements management reports and detailed variance analyses to inform strategic business decisions
Design implement and maintain robust internal controls and audit readiness protocols in alignment with GAAP IRS and state regulatory requirements
Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors tax advisors and financial institutions
Supervise develop and mentor finance team members including accountants and financial analysts
Lead the annual budgeting forecasting and financial planning processes delivering data-driven insights to senior leadership
Monitor and evaluate financial performance across distribution centers product lines and operational segments
Champion the implementation integration and continuous improvement of ERP systems and financial processes to support business expansion
Ensure accurate and timely filing of all federal state and local tax returns with particular attention to California-specific compliance mandates

Requirements

Requirements:

Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field; CPA certification required
7 years of progressive accounting experience including 3 years in a Controller or equivalent senior financial leadership role
Proven experience in distribution logistics or the food & beverage industry
Expertise with ERP systems such as SAP Oracle or NetSuite; advanced proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools
Strong background in financial reporting regulatory compliance and audit coordination
Demonstrated leadership communication and analytical problem-solving skills
Experience managing external audits and complex regulatory filings
In-depth knowledge of California tax laws labor regulations and compliance frameworks
Ability to perform effectively under pressure meet tight deadlines and maintain the highest standards of accuracy and integrity
