The Controller plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the financial integrity and strategic direction of a fast-growing grocery distributor based in Los Angeles CA. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions financial reporting and internal controls ensuring compliance with GAAP tax regulations and audit standards. Responsibilities:
- Lead all aspects of accounting operations including general ledger management and execution of month-end and year-end close cycles
- Prepare and analyze financial statements management reports and detailed variance analyses to inform strategic business decisions
- Design implement and maintain robust internal controls and audit readiness protocols in alignment with GAAP IRS and state regulatory requirements
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors tax advisors and financial institutions
- Supervise develop and mentor finance team members including accountants and financial analysts
- Lead the annual budgeting forecasting and financial planning processes delivering data-driven insights to senior leadership
- Monitor and evaluate financial performance across distribution centers product lines and operational segments
- Champion the implementation integration and continuous improvement of ERP systems and financial processes to support business expansion
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of all federal state and local tax returns with particular attention to California-specific compliance mandates

- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field; CPA certification required
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience including 3 years in a Controller or equivalent senior financial leadership role
- Proven experience in distribution logistics or the food & beverage industry
- Expertise with ERP systems such as SAP Oracle or NetSuite; advanced proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools
- Strong background in financial reporting regulatory compliance and audit coordination
- Demonstrated leadership communication and analytical problem-solving skills
- Experience managing external audits and complex regulatory filings
- In-depth knowledge of California tax laws labor regulations and compliance frameworks
