Full Time Day Shift
The Position:
The Supervisor of Surgery works in collaboration with the veterinary staff the managerial team the surgical and anesthesia technicians and assistants and all visitors to provide Angell clientele with excellent clinical and customer service. The Supervisor of Surgery is expected to spend a minimum of 75% of work hours as an on the floor supervisor in the specialty departments. The remaining 25% of the work hours are spent in an administrative role as outlined in the job responsibilities.
These services include providing leadership and training of the surgery and anesthesia technician and assistant staff members modeled after the values of the MSPCA-Angell. This person coordinates and participates in all functions of the surgery and anesthesia services by assuring that sufficient resources and effective protocols are in place to support the smooth operational flow of patients and visitors through the services. The Supervisor of Surgery must demonstrate excellent judgment interpersonal skills and willingness to positively influence others. This person will maintain a high visibility throughout the work shift and demonstrate the willingness and ability to help others. This person spends the majority of their time on the surgery floor as a situational decision maker and source of leadership and knowledge. Their floor presence includes but is not limited to acting as floor coordinator and covering all areas as needed.
Some duties to include:
- Models appropriate conduct behavior and direction to staff members developing their ability to recognize and handle veterinarian/staff concerns appropriately.
- Works collaboratively with other hospital departments and the veterinary staff ensuring that hospital policies and procedures are followed.
- Contributes to the development and ensures implementation and maintenance of service policies and procedures assuring that sufficient resources and effective protocols are in place to support the smooth operational flow of the department.
- Be able to adapt to last minute changes and emergencies in a positive professional manner.
- Work on the clinical floor when needed or asked.
- Participate present and attend staff meetings.
- Providing guidance and constructive criticism to all staff and visitors.
- Be able and willing to take on various roles in the department.
Physical Requirements:
- Mandatory regular attendance and punctual presence.
- Able to stand for long periods of time up to 80%-100% of entire shift.
- Able to move lift push pull or carry up to 22 kgs repeatedly. Over 22 kgs with assistance.
- Able to perform some repetitive movement of upper/lower body while lifting/restraining/transporting equipment or patients.
- Light to moderate work with variable amounts of standing walking bending reaching and stooping.

MSPCA-Angell West a non-profit 24-hour emergency and referral satellite hospital in the west suburbs of Boston was opened in early 2014 by Angell Animal Medical Center. The hospital is over 17000 square feet and is located 10 miles west of Boston in Waltham.
QUALIFIED APPLICANTS
Qualified applicants will hold a current Veterinary Technician Certification in the state of Massachusetts they must be able to maintain this certification throughout their employment in this role. We are looking for candidates with 3-5 years in surgical and/or anesthesia exclusive experience. Supervisory experience in a veterinary hospital setting preferred. COMPENSATION:
Starting $35-39/hr
