This position will be located at Camp Burnt Gin in Sumter County.
Job Roles and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the supervision and daily care for up to eight campers with physical disabilities and/or chronic illnesses. This includes but not limited to.
- Explain safety regulations and camp policies to campers and create a safe environment for all camp residents.
- Live in a cabin with campers assure campers are supervised at all times and promote socialization skills as well as adjust to camp life.
- Assist campers with activities of daily living which may include feeding bathing changing and/or other hygiene related tasks.
- Guide campers through the daily camp schedule while providing assistance in all activities so each camper can fully participate.
This position is responsible for all duties surrounding the designated activity area (arts and crafts sports and games nature and science and fine arts). This includes but not limited to.
- Plan and implement activities geared to the age interest and abilities of campers suited for the designated activity area.
- Adapt activities to ensure all campers are able to participate.
- Assist with setting up and on occasion running evening activities such as talent show and camp dance.
- Assist with assigned cabin group for the session when not involved in own activity area.
- Maintain activity area.
Other responsibilities:
- Participate in a weeklong staff orientation/training
- Assist with the task required to open and close camp and the daily activities required to maintain a clean facility.
- Attend staff meetings when not on cabin duty.
- Participate in all aspects of Camp Burnt Gin programing such as singing during mealtimes morning motivation and movement committee work mid-morning activities swimming and boating and evening programs.
- Create awards to be presented to campers write parent letter to be sent to campers parents and/or guardians and do an evaluation form for campers charts.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements:
Requirements to qualify for this position are:
- At least a rising junior in college and/or 21 years old OR a rising sophomore in college with at least 1 year experience working at camp.
- Knowledge and/or expertise in activity area as well as ability to teach/lead activity.
- Possess the ability and willingness to be a positive role model and the desire to work with children in an outdoor setting.
- Have the ability to provide assistance with activities of daily living and ability to lift and carry twenty-five (25) pounds.
- Possess good judgment visual and auditory ability to supervise campers and/identify/respond to any environmental hazard or emergency.
- Be able to interact effectively with individuals and groups respecting social and cultural diversity and maintaining appropriate boundaries.
