The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission Prince Georges County Department of Parks and Recreation Natural and Historical Resources Division is seeking part-time Museum Educators at the College Park Aviation Museum (CPAM).

The College Park Aviation Museum shares its campus with the worlds oldest continuously operating airport established by the Wright Brothers in 1909 and home to the first Army aviation school. We are dedicated to preserving aviation innovations in College Park and Prince Georges County. We engage and inspire our community and visitors with diverse stories through education exhibits and programming.

Museum Educators are responsible for designing and delivering educational tours to students and adults planning and implementing educational programs creating engaging educational activities and creating lesson plans in support of regular STEAM events. Each year CPAM offers educational tours to over 12000 visitors and reach hundreds more through monthly STEAM events our biannual Scout Days and Homeschool Days and our annual holiday event Winter Fly-In. Museum Educators may have the opportunity to create educational programs organize events or work on collections projects depending on the aptitude and interests of the Educator and the needs of the museum.

Ideal candidates should be either be a rising junior or senior in college or in graduate school. Ideal candidates should be self-starters strong communicators team players and have an interest and experience in museum education history public history or education; either in classroom teaching or informal contexts. Knowledge of K-12 curriculum or a second language are ideal.

This candidate will support the College Park Aviation museum in upholding NHRDs four strategic pillars:

This position pays at a rate of$16.25 per hour.

Must work a minimum of 18 hours per week including two weekend days a month and with amaximum of up to 29 hours a week.

Examples of Important Duties

Lead tours of the museum conduct public and family programs staff special weekend and evening events as well as childrens birthday parties
Creating lesson plans for children activities
Engage and interact with guests in the gallery
Act as Manager on Duty by handling point of sale transactions opening and closing the museum and exhibits assisting museum guests and interacting with our volunteers and staff
Be a team player who is able to manage and see multiple projects and tasks with short and medium term deadlines to completion with little supervision
Assist in the developing tours exhibits and educational activities and programs under the direction of the Education Manager
Assist career staff as needed and fulfill other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. Candidates must be pursing a college degree in either Museum Studies Public History History or in an appropriate field.
At least one year experience.
Familiarity with working with children.
