The School Speech Therapist or Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) assesses diagnoses and treats a variety of speech and language disorders to help students develop strong communication skills. The School Speech Therapist collaborates with teachers parents and other professionals to ensure a supportive learning environment for all students.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Implement screening and/or referral procedures to identify students needing speech/language assessment.
  • Assess and identify students with deficits in communication skills.
  • Administer individual speech-language assessments and probes to evaluate communication skills.
  • Consult with parents and school staff regarding students communication skills.
  • Participate in meetings with school staff to discuss student needs
  • Develop appropriate individualized education programs (IEPs) for students requiring speech/language services.
  • Collaborate with school teams for scheduling services.
  • Provide speech/language services in accordance with the IEP following evidence-based practice.
  • Collect and maintain records of student data related to performance and progress on goals.
  • Complete online documentation of services that align with Medicaid requirements.
  • Assist with purchase order requests for and management of speech/language supplies and materials.
  • Conduct in-service professional development to teachers and school staff members on topics related to communication skills.
  • Assist teachers and staff with integrating needed speech/language skills in the classroom.
  • Supervise speech/language assistant(s) or paraeducator(s).

Education and Experience:

  • Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university.
  • Current (valid not expired) licensure to practice Speech-Language Pathology issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia

This position is evaluated annually.This position also includes a stipend of $2890. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees.
