The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the states renewable natural resources including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science accurate information and technology. The Office of the Secretary exists to provide leadership and support services administrative direction and accountability for departmental programs; administrative direction and leadership to ensure the success of subordinate programs; and department-wide coordination communication personnel and basic resources needed to accomplish the departments mission.

Were looking for an Attorney 3-4to serve as the legal counsel for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries Office of Management & Finance. Primary areas of responsibility for this position include legal support for Human Resources and Procurement. Experience with Civil Service Rules and employment law La. R.S. Title 39 purchasing rules and La. R.S. Title 38 construction rules is preferred but all attorneys licensed for at least two years are encouraged to apply.

The LDWF legal section consists of four attorneys a paralegal and a land specialist. This section offers a relaxed and collaborative work environment.

Possession of a license to practice law in the state of Louisiana plus two years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
In this role you will:

  • Serve under the general direction of the General Counsel and provide substantial and technical leadership in roles relating to the formulation determination and effectuation of agency policies in the administration of Employee Relations Risk Management Procurement and associated litigation.
  • Directly participate in all matters pertaining to employment-related functions including advising on grievances and complaints.
  • Preparing for and conducting internal investigations developing and interpreting related policies and making recommendations for solutions and corrective actions.
  • Address matters pertaining to Title 38 or Title 39 issues involving the expenditure of agency funds for procurement supplies services or major repairs.

Career Progression:This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as an Attorney 3 or Attorney 4.
Compensation:The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position provides the opportunity to advance within this job series. The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.
