Job Summary

Under minimal supervision coordinates and solves administrative problems on campus (inpatient / outpatient) within the operations of Hospital Services- including but not limited to: Patient Flow Clinical Staffing Regulatory Issues Disaster Response Employee Health Emergency Management Descendent Affairs Risk Management Safety - Security/ Help Desk / Patient Representative/ Social Services/ Nutrition Service/ Physician Relations / Human Resources and Community Health Services on a shift basis for Denver Health. The professional nurse adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance and the ANA Code of Ethics to provide care to all healthcare consumers. Applies critical thinking evidence-based practices and competence to collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in healthcare consumer safety and quality outcomes. Essential Functions:
  • Acts as an administrative liaison for all departments nursing and ancillary departments regarding problem solving conflict resolution crisis intervention and policy interpretation to ensure smooth operation of all services on a shift basis. Takes actions and follows up with appropriate hospital administrative personnel. (20%)
  • Collaborates with admitting physician staff based upon service type patient condition patient acuity and family considerations in conjunction with nursing unit census and staffing considerations for appropriate patient bed / unit assignments in a timely manner. (15%)
  • Makes decisions in collaboration with the charge nurses regarding bed assignments for newly admitted patients and transfers. Continually evaluates patient placement and proactive considerations for averting and reducing ED divert/ ED boarder times ICU Advisory PACU boarder times through critical thinking of Pt Flow processes. (20%)
  • Completes department rounds to optimize patient placement and promote timely discharges. Collaborates with the Rapid Response Team facilitating transfers to a higher level of care (15%)
  • Facilitates Bed Huddles each shift; to include upcoming shift staffing plan contacts appropriate resources to arrange for additional staff and/or census manage unnecessary nursing coverage. Maintains accurate staffing documentation via computer entry into the electronic scheduling system for schedule attendance and payroll accuracy (10%)
  • Maintains close effective and accurate communication with CNO Directors Nurse Managers staffing office personnel Administrator On-Call Risk Management Office Public Information Officer Safety Officer Coroners Office Security and the Chaplin. Accumulates and articulates information needed. (10%)
  • Serves as HR Relations initiating and/or participating in employee disciplinary processes as needed by appropriate intervention counseling documentation and timely notification of employees immediate supervisor while treating these individuals with courtesy dignity empathy and respect of privacy. (10%)

Education:
  • Associates Degree Required

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years Three years of professional acute nursing experience including Critical Care / ED Required and
  • 1-3 years One year of supervisory experience Required and

Licenses:
  • ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
  • RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Adherence to Standards of Professional Nursing Practice/ Process / Performance regulatory requirements and the Joint Commission Standards. (Signed ANA addendum)
  • Strong understanding of the principals of customer service as it applies to patients staff and the community
  • Ability to assist in identifying ways to promote quality patient centric care and maintain Denver Healths high level of patient satisfaction.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team matrix environment. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels and in a cross functional environment.
  • Ability to work closely with staff charge nurses clinical nurse educator(s) and Nursing Managers physicians executive leadership to provide care to patients with respect to their uniqueness using informed judgment competence individual qualifications and collaboration with the health care team.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of assessment findings as they relate to the disease process and continuum of care.
  • Proficient in Electronic Health Record
  • Proficient in use of electronic Staff Scheduling system
